In this league games are a lot more 50/50, games like this it's vital that we don't lose when we are not entirely on our game. I'm happy... My weekend isn't ruined and we move on

I know most on here think we’re shite, but we’re really not, don’t be too disheartened by today’s showing, we’re an hard team to play against, you were never going to get an abundance of scoring opportunities I warned you all mid week.

Poor starts can flatter to deceive. When you got promoted in 2014/15 season (I think), you were bottom 3 (or thereabouts) in Xmas, and went up by the end of the season.

Your manager did what he had to keep you up. Make you a difficult team to beat by pressing really hard, and not conceding goals. No one on this forum is surprised a team with Chaplin and Thomas gets in good scoring positions, but miss chances. We remember them really well and both will develop nicely.

We’re similar, we don’t typically concede goals, and we beat teams by 1 goal. We topped the ‘comeback table’ last season in L1 and we really should’ve beat Bristol (at least not lost the game) and we turned it around going 1-0 down v QPR. Despite conceding 4 goals, our defending in open play looked solid

Both teams are difficult to beat, and on match day 46 I think neither of us will be worrying about relegation. At least I hope not.

On a side note, the phone in has hit new levels of shite this season. Clive fucks off to find and interview MR and leaves Oggy taking the calls. It’s painful to listen to him openly conversing on air with the producer in between calls

Game was there for the taking, poor crosses or taking a second to get a shot away in the final third cost us today. Thought Sheaf looked ok, gave some nice passes but got caught in possession a few times and we would have been punished by a decent team. Allen didn't do an awful lot and it's someone we need to replace if possible, someone with a big of pace would be nice, Godden didn't get a sniff all game. Hamer was good.

We need to be putting these teams away if we have any serious ambitions this season, I know a lot are happy with suriving, but I think we're a comfortably midtable side, couple of real quality signings in key areas, I think we'll mount a play off push.

I thought that Sheaf improved. His passes went astray quite a lot in the first 20 minutes but he settled down nicely.

This season, what do you mean by ambitious exactly?

I agree we will mid table, but I do think Barnsley will be thereabouts too because they’re a good outfit. They lost to an inform Luton team and a Reading team that’s on fire after going down to 10 men.

With all due respect to the people predicting wild score lines, you set yourself up to let down today.

Clean sheet and a point on the road is a decent result. There are positives, and things to improve but overall, it’s a decent point.

In games like today, it’s a harsh assessment. He’s a striker that needs service and he didn’t have any. He made a run similar to the one made v QPR but Giles put a flat ball to the near post and he didn’t pick him up.

Ngl, too many people put their expectations too highly for this one, predicting us to score 3 or 4 goals when that is a very rare thing for us under MR. Despite their bad start, Barnsley will do alright this year.

I think we're probably going to have to agree to disagree. His movement was non-existant, when on the ball he was far too slow which led him to give it away quickly on a number of occasions, and his touch was off.

Blaming it on lack of service just isn't correct in my view. Giles put in several crosses for him to get on the end of, but he didn't make an attempt at getting on the end of them. Instead he was often found behind both Barnsley's CB's (both of which are around the 6"4 mark), when he should've been making diagonal runs towards the near post, and getting in front of the defenders. Good crosses are rendered useless if forwards refuse to make the correct runs.

My expectations weren't inflated. If you read my posts at the beginning of the thread I was one of the few that accepted this was going to be a very difficult game. That doesn't mean we can't criticise a player's performance if it was noticeably sub-par.

I explained it in the next sentence, bit of luck, couple of quality signings and we could mount a play off push. We're a quality AM away from unlocking that defence today, for me Allen isn't good enough, he works hard and plays some nice balls every now and then, but lacks any pace and doesn't ever take someone on, never stretches a defence.

Fair enough, there was at least the one cross where Gooden made a run and he wasn’t picked up and cross went nowhere near him. Less than 30% accuracy for cross (6/21) tells the story for me. In fairness to you, it can be a two way street. Their commentators did mention a few times that ‘it wasn’t a great cross from Giles’ and as for Dabo, I can’t remember a cross of his threatening - maybe one?

Our best chance of a goal all game looked like it would be from a corner, where we had the best chance of the game.

The comment about inflated expectations was a general comment in response to people saying we’d hammer Barnsley - which I thought was a bit hubristic. It wasn’t aimed at you if you weren’t one of those people.

Possibly, the likelihood is that we’ll go 2 upfront. If Allen doesn’t increase his output, it’d become harder to justify playing him after spending a few quid on Walker. Who I thought defending quite well from the front today.

Thought the defence and Hamer played well. The rest were just poor. The front 3 were lightweight and offered very little. Walker had a bit more about him than Godden when he came on. The ball just wasn’t held up front at all.

If Leo scored we would have 3 pts in the bag.

Atmosphere was rubbish. Poor show from the home fans.

Obviously it was a hard game against a side we couldn’t find a way to unlock.
Godden had bugger all service and Sheaf is no Shipley and I don’t get the wankfest over Hamer. He is a booking in waiting all the time. Dabo was not at his usual level.
Decent point that gets you up the table and keeps the relegation places in the distance.

Hamer at least has us threatening from set pieces which is about the only way we threatened today.

Hammer is decent but Walsh is more creative. Hammer is more defensive, them both together at the base would def start a wankfest

I think the lack of accuracy was in part due to the aforementioned lack of movement as well as the lack of bodies in the box. So, claiming it tells the full story, in my opinion, is harsh. Admittedly, not all crosses were good, but enough were at the very least directed into the right area.

Perhaps I'm giving Giles too much credit here, but I think the logic behind some of his crosses was that there was little point in sending lofted balls into the box, as given the CB's height advantage, they would've been able to deal with them relatively easily. So, instead he tried to aim them low. But without the correct runs along with the lack of bodies getting into the box, on the surface they looked wasteful and poor.

Ironically, the one notable cross that Dabo sent in, Godden managed to get himself in front of the defenders and was able to make a minor connection. Unfortunately, this revelation came too late as by that point the game was quickly going nowhere.

Maybe it's the fact he's three games into playing in a new country and league and most people can already see that he can comfortably receive and play the ball in very tight spaces, pick a pass long and short, is highly competitive and gets stuck in, is responsible for our new threat from set pieces.
