"There is no point in playing nice football if we are getting beat week in, week out. We have to toughen up a bit and start being a bit more physical as well."

"Teams seem to enjoy playing against us and that has to change along with us conceding silly goals. It is really disappointing."

"It isn't like teams are cutting us open and scoring 'worldy' goals so it is really frustrating. We have to get the basics covered and fight our way out of this situation."

First bit of sense coming out of CCFC in a long time ! Well done him. Now lets see if the players & manager follow it up with suitable actions !

And people on here have been saying this for how long now?
Can not beleive they did not know this already, but have they got the fight in them is the big question.

Also - thats a bit rich coming from him, seeing as he weren't even looking for the free kick for their second goal - totally unprofessional.

however - i do agree with him.

I don't think he means we should stop playing passing football, but we should be pressing more, getting more tackles in, getting closer and more physical when we haven't got the ball, being a bit more streetwise with grappling in the box, getting some niggly fouls in to try and wind up the opposition.

I'm sure this is what AT has been wanting them to do - the best few games we've played Forrest, burnley and whu we pressed them and harried them, the passed it round them when we had the ball.

In fact the last time he publicly said they should get more physical bigi got sent off. The problem is there isn't enough nastiness in the squad.

Theres getting stuck in and fighting for the cause and going over the top and fouling (inexperianced but this will come to the younger players).
It's about time our players started getting a bit more savvy and getting in the refs face etc like leeds for example not that I condone this but they have to start getting a bit more fire in their belly's and not accept anything and everything and becoming feared by other teams.
As has been said hoofroyd may not have been everyone's cup of tea but teams did not like playing us and knew they had been in a match.

If Boothroyd was in charge now we would not be 7 points drift.

What do people want? Neat football but losing every week or more direct football but grinding results?

Somewhere inbetween. :D

Maybe but at least we'd be putting up a fight and been hard to beat. We've played 2 teams struggling for form themselves and weve come 2nd best. The gap widens then. Also we get battered by an Ipswich team 2 months ago who are on a 7 game losing streak.

Two issues to raise with Carl Baker;

1) where is this nice football...I must have missed it
2) rather than stating the obvious, could he please highlight where/when he has displayed some fight...apart from the red card he received and the subsequent 3 match ban

Rather than tell us something we have known/said for months, Baker should start FIGHTING for his place, from which he has been ousted by a teenager.

we need more than the odd appearance from the bench, Carl.....and preferably more than you have currently shown since your transfer almost 2 years ago....

Appearances 45 + 23 sub...Goals = 3

Show a bit more 'fight' than that, eh, Carl.....

90% of the players couldn't fight there way out of a paper bag, just more shite being talked by a useless 'professional' footballer.

We were not winning under boothroyd. We were not "grinding out results", we were losing every week!!!!!!!

You must have a short memory.... We were 4th this time last year.

Have you seen the league table? Were losing every week now!!!

You don't remember the last 2 months under "Moses" Boothroyd, obviously!

Don't you think though like AT there was no plan of playing any differant and teams sussed out how to nullify us under bothroyd?
Plus I think the other factor may have been MK's arrival maybe clashes in the changing room ego's etc don't know just a thought.

Exactly just as King was starting regularly the team went downhill. Granted king was class player but his arrival certainly upset the dressing room.

Don't know how people can slate bothroyds record and support AT's record weather it be a weaker team or not (subject all on it's own).
Think King had a lot to do with the sudden town turn myself, certain players may have had alter egos and may not have liked another ego coming in but something changed may have also to do with what had happened in his private life speculating obviously don't do rumours.

i agree about King's arrival. There was a noticable change when he came to the club, and considering his arrival was supposed to be the finishing touch to Boothroyd's plans, it kind of back fired and had the opposite effect.

I don't think King was the reason for a drop in form, I think people are using this as a silver lining to try and convince themselves we are better off without King.

A more major factor was injuries to Carsley and Turner meaning or defence had become softer and we couldn't hold onto a lead and teams figuring out how to play us.

yep, basically play the way we did v west ham only do it week in, week out, not just against the big sides.

unfortunately this has pretty much been the case in the 28 years i have supported ccfc.

No way are we better off without King, think everyone knows how much we miss his experiance and more so goals, just saying that maybe there was problems inside the camp with him there.

........... I think people are using this as a silver lining to try and convince themselves we are better off without King.

Not in my case.

I said at the time that under Boothroyd, when we got King, the rest of the squad looked demorilised, and disinterested, as the new kid on the block was taking all the limelight. I also admitted at the same time, that King was too GOOD for our team, and may have been a cause for others to become upset. Also players who were worthy of a starting place, lost their place because of him.

However, if we talk about the King we seen under Thorn, then I agree we miss him! And we certainly arent better off without him! The whole squad looked decent! Maybe it was Boothroyd who was treating King differently to everyone else, where as AT didnt! He doesnt seem the type to pussy-foot around players, unlike Boothroyd.

"Screw nice football lets FIGHT" - yes that plus:

How about "stop passing backwards and sidewards, strikers to play up front not down flanks, play attacking football, more movement/vision/goals from midfield, stop conceding last minute goals, play consistently for 90+ minutes" - I could go on.

The Diamond is dead !!!

Too few shots
Too few goals
Too few points

Result of Diamond (1) = bottom of league 7 points from safety
Result of Diamond (2) = mountain to climb need 10 more wins at least to survive
Result of Diamond (3) = near certainty for relegation

I can't understand, fans of any team you care to name, condoning the Idea "Stuff pretty Football" forgive me for thinking, that the whole experience of going to the games on a Saturday afternoon, is centered on our team outplaying the opposition with neat passing Football, the principle must be correct surely to God.We have been undone, by mistakes at the back, mainly due to the inexperience of some of our players, the playing model IE passing foot ball from our defence, instead of hoofing it foreward, which nearly always results in the thing coming straight back at us.
Despite our sorry state, which I agree is dire, I'll stick to my guns, and repeat my opinion, that the Football under Andy Thorn, is the most rewarding to watch since we've been at the Ricoh, Total lack of funding for the Manager is to blame, Not the Style of Football he Believes in
Respect as ever...Tankie..

Ah yes, but we weren't fourth when Boothroyd was sacked, which I think was the point NLHWC was making.

You must have a short memory.... We were 4th this time last year.

Dont think anyone wants us to stop playing passing football Tankie just want us to do it with some passion & desire, maybe even do it in the other teams half ! We are a soft touch at the moment and need to toughen up and fight to stay in this division - fighting for the right doesnt mean you give up passing the ball, it does mean working ya tabs off, get in players faces, getting tackles in, doing the dirtier side of the game well, playing for the right to wear the shirt etc.
