Historically, definitely not. Take the last 15 years out of it and we are comfortably bigger club.

Like I said, catchment area is relevant if you have a decent team. If you don’t then you can have a million in your area but you’ll still get pitiful crowds.

We do have a decent team don’t we?

Have a look at the threads on here and see if you think the common view is that we have a competitive team.

Aren’t we one if the most successful teams in tbd country in the last 3 years?

But we’ve never had huge season ticket sales, you think we could change decades of behaviour in a few months?

Give it some success next season and watch the bandwagon grow.

Most clubs can get big support when they’re going well or have a big game, what is a true reflection of support imo is week in week

Forest have been out of the top flight longer than us and still manage 20k avg at this level or lower, they sold 10k season tickets two months ago.

No, we’ve had good times which have restored some pride but all it has done is put us back where we were 10 years ago.

By the way… if you’re saying that in your opinion we’re one of the most successful teams in the country in the last 3 years, why do you not rate Mark Robins?

Yes we do, and we have a brilliant manager, but to put things into context, West Brom just spent 5million on 1 player. In order to be challenging for the top 6, we will need at least a couple more years of development imho.
But, we are a work in progress, and its enjoyable watching that progress.

Who is saying we’re bigger than Forest?

Support is generational, it’s passed down, they have league championships, European cups, league cups to reflect on and talk about, Clough and Taylor etc, they crap all over us in terms of honours and success

It’s a bit silly to compare us to Forest tbh

If you’re looking for reasonable comparisons then you’ve probably got to look at Birmingham. And they’ve got a huge catchment area compared to us which is why they can rustle up massive followings when they got rolling, but in the bad times I doubt there’d be too much difference between our crowds.

We have had times when we were bigger yes but Stoke City have had periods when they were a prominent team. The 74 Stoke team challenged for the title with Hudson, Shilton, Conroy. In 72 they were league cup winners, in 71 and 72 they were FA cup semi finalists and for many years had two of the most famous players in history playing for them, Stanley Matthews and Gordon Banks In their peak years.

Yes I’m saying even though Forest are in lean times they still turn up in numbers whatever league position or league they’re in, they don’t need a “bandwagon”.

They have history, tradition, they are a much ‘bigger name’ than us, we can’t match that.

I just wish more people In Cov were interested,
I believe the problem is 2 fold,

1, Cov being a cosmopolitan city with a large immigrant population, and a large student population, we dont have enough people with deep rooted family histories of following the club. Also those population (in general) probably dont have enough disposable income to follow football regularly, and £300+ for a season ticket is out of the question.

2, for all the great things going on at the club in the last few years, their marketing has been bloody aweful! I think there is so much more that can be done to raise interest locally.
Maybe that's something that the owners can look at going forward.

It doesn't really matter if it is 'a couple of quid', people have their reasons to go or not to go.

The season ticket numbers are looking really positive, but I fear they have got this one wrong.

I’m not so sure the makeup of the city is as important as you think

I think it’s more that being constantly seen as a small club in the top division for all those years that held us back. We never had a promotion push and our seasons were virtually all meaningless until the last few games where we had to stay up and all of a sudden things got serious.

We stood for mediocrity and ‘hangers on’ for way too long.

Good job then that the taxis you've ordered with certainty for the past 4 seasons didn't show up then isn't it?

How did they get on in League One?

Think you’ll find they all went straight back up as opposed to staying there rotting for the bones of a decade.

Not really as success was inevitable in league 2 - we have had 1 good season which wasn’t expected and are now back at home. Talking of back at home got your season ticket now you’ve crossed the Welsh border?

We certainly had plenty of players that were "too comfortable" playing for Coventry.
That's where MR has changed the ethos, those seasons under Alex Ferguson's reign has rubbed off on him.

Ipswich have the whole Bobby Robson thing plus the league championship which is engrained into their fans, again things we don’t have. They’re really well supported for where they are based tbh, I wouldn’t class them as a small club. We’re potentially bigger but potential is very different to actually doing something.
