Well we are out which is frustrating however....
The positives I took from the evening were:
1. Haynes has the best delivery I have seen in a while from a young left footed defender.
2. Swanson looks very composed on the ball and will cause teams problems at this level.
3. Fleck is great on the ball and composed in tight areas, if we can build a midfield that gets the best out of him, we will dominate the tempo against lesser teams.
4. Miller scored and this will add to his confidence levels, after frankly what was an appalling attempt to score with just the keeper to beat.
On the negative side:
1. We looked like we struggled with 5-3-2 for long periods and in Jordan Clarke don't have a RWB good enough for that system. In a 5-3-2 good wing-backs who can defend and be potent attacking threats are key. We need to sign someone who can play this position well or we will struggle to make it work.
2. We lack a cutting edge and focal point up top. Miller scored but from what I saw from him and McQuid there is no way they will score enough to get us into the top 6. Tudgay is better and will come back into the team, but as we know to succeed in this league you need 2 forwards scoring 15+ goals to climb the table.
3. Finch - the lad looks weak physically and sadly his reading of the game was woeful, he backed off far too much and his pass completion stats were appalling.
All in all the scoreline was respectable and we were playing a team with more in most departments than us. But to make the top 6 we 100% MUST SIGN a forward, RWB, and a proper holding midfielder to give licence to Fleck and Swanson to go on the offensive.
