Unless I’m just a pissed up oblivious approaching middle age man. I’ve literally seen trouble in town about 5 times in 18 years. Admittedly I’m not out 3 nights a week these days like I used to be though.
Yeah I was out the other week and it felt a lot less likely to kick off than it did 15 years ago when I was out more than twice a week. It's grim down the Burges but it always has been

My son does charity boxing and he's got a fight in December. Best thing he's ever done as it channels his aggression, and he trains hard in the gym too. I found when I started playing rugby it kept me out of trouble, sport definitely helps I reckon. Plus seeing a psychologist regularly too !
I was a boxer myself. I also worked the doors before the days of having to be polite to idiots. I found boxing learns respect. You would see people come in change very quickly. It gave many a different outlook in life. It even changed me from a cheeky twat to a respectful twat. And it kept me in amazing shape. That was a bonus.

Singapore is one of the most crime free places in the world you can go on the beach there and leave your wallet and no one would consider taking it - can anyone think why?

Are you going to say death penalty? Because the argument doesn't add up.
Hong kong doesn't have the death penalty and has a lower murder rate.
In the States non capital punishment states are have lower murder rates than those that execute.
El Salvador has one of the highest homicide rates in the world and has the death penalty (though rarely uses it).

South East Asian countries in general seem to be safer. Maybe it's just cultural.

I think the length of the sentence should also be governed by the size of the knife you carry. Any carrying of a knife in such circumstances, a sentence, but a machete, a much, much longer sentence imposed.

I’d say get caught carrying a knife and you’re locked up for 5 actual years and a machete 15.

I overpaid by $10 in a bar there and the owner ran down the street to give me the 10 back. They have undercover police everywhere there.

100% agree

And i dibt care if i sound like an old fuddy duddy, this country losing its family values and morals

Look at love island. Its softcore porn. Never ever would have been in telly in 80s and 90s. Kids are growing up to be gangsters or sluts as their aspirations
It's not an old fashioned view, its the correct view. I cant comment on those programmes as I've never watched them. Reality shite.
My kids wouldn't dream of doing any of that crap that went on last night as my kids have been/are being brought up to treat people with respect and have manners. They also know that to get anything out of life you have to damn well go out and earn it not sponge it or rob off people. My oldest is 16 and he's been working since 14 years of age.
These feral fuckers need to be brought to task asap as the general public now seem to be getting more and more pissed off with this crap.

Yes that's all well and good saying all that but at what point should people start taking responsibility for their own actions? Going to a cinema mob handed with machetes? You think this is all down to cuts in services? Really? More like a total lack of respect for anyone and anything. These arsewipes would still do the same regardless of police cuts or not.
Feral dragged up scum that need eliminating from society.
The problem we also have these days is to many do gooders making excuses for them. Carrying a knife should be a minimum of 10 years in prison imo.
And don't these cuts affect everybody? Funnily enough when I finish work at 2 today I've no plans to put a tracksuit and hoody on and go tooled up with a machete up town.

You do what works. We don’t know enough about why people end up like this for really targeted intervention. Best we can do is fund support services and make a dent in it. Worked in Glasgow.

No kid carrying a knife is thinking about getting caught. They’re either thinking about protection in their immediate environment or they’re well into a criminal lifestyle already. Harsh sentencing is great for the feels of everyone else, but does little to actually solve the problem.

pretty much on the same page as you on this issue but I do think we need automatic custodial for possession of a knife.

i appreciate the argument is a lot more nuanced than harsher sentences and there is more that needs to be done in conjunction.
Totally agree with the Scottish model of making it a public health issue which you mentioned but that took a decade to start showing results.
Possession of a firearm is pretty much guaranteed custodial and I think most of us would be horrified if it wasn't but more people are dying through knives than guns.

Oh yeah lock the fuckers up. Just don’t expect it to solve the issue on its own.

yeah, it has to be part of a more cohesive policy.
Like zero tolerance in New York which made great headlines but wasn't actually zero tolerance at all and was part of a wider program.

Don't know if it has been mentioned before on here, but they were reporting on 5Live that some mums were buying knives for their children.

It works in America doesn't it this method. If you have a gun, I am having a gun.

You really think everyone that carries a knife has come from a poor impoverished background? Really?

See they have had to stop showing that film because the ferrel cunts kept kicking off.

I bet JD sports will be happy with the sales of shoulder bags though.

Did I say that?

Do you think there’s as much gang violence in well off areas? Really? You look at other places that have had this issue and how they’ve solved it and that’s a public health approach like Glasgow.

What’s your great theory? Some people are just born baddies? How to we reduce knife crime then? Do you have a baddie test we can administer at birth?

First sentence aged 20 last one 40. 25 years out. Not proud at all in fact ashamed, but I know about violence. Mixed with some hard people but does anybody on here really know about violence ?
Be genuinely interested to read your book on this if you ever get round to writing it BBR. You seem like an intelligent, polite and articulate bloke so a good advert for the capacity to change.

Was your violent tendency down to a short fuse or a macho not backing down or adrenaline rush or are these questions just too simplistic?

Probably just down to the frustrations of being a City fan.

I've pondered on writing a book but as I write football articles I've been more interested in that. To keep it as short as I can I had great parents, and there was no violence growing up in the house etc. I played football from junior school right till aged about 17. Then stopped and started drinking regularly, and got involved in fights in pubs. I was no Mike Tyson but wouldn't back down, and then got a reputation which never helped !
The psychologist I saw after all the sentences I did said after a few sessions, I swapped sport and playing often and using up aggression properly, to using it in pubs and clubs. But I used to have fights in prison so couldnt use alcohol as an excuse. I now think first, and am convinced if you change your thinking, you can change your life without sounding corny.

I think I will forward that last sentence to Boris Johnson.

What's your solution? Give them a hug and say don't do it again? Like I've said before,10 years in jail for carrying a knife. At least the filth are off our streets. When they come out and if they do it gain then they go back in for another 10 years.
You have your view and I have mine. But I'd guess most people would share my view not yours. Cue an hysterical liberal the little lambs need rehabilitation reply.

What?

Ive said lock them up and look at what’s worked elsewhere. I’d rather not wait for someone to be stabbed.

Bloody virtue signallers. We get it mate you don’t like criminals. It’s hardly a niche position.

No offence but I get the impression you've never really lived in the real world. You seem to live in a bit of a bubble where everything will be ok and we can rehabilitate all these 'baddies". Something needs to be done because people are and will start taking matters into there own hands.

you're being mocked because if you'd read the thread you'd have clearly seen Shmeees suggested solution to the problem.
Try taking your time and reading the thread properly rather than getting all angry and smashing away at the keyboard.
