Loved the program when I was a kid. Never had a clue it was wrong. Love thy neighbour was funny. Went a bit far sometimes though. Alf Garnett was a great comedy character. People thought that Til Death Us Do Part took the piss out of minorities but it took the piss out of people that had similar thoughts. If any younger members on here don't have a clue what it was like in the 70's and 80's go on youtube and take a look at them shows. You will be in for a surprise. They were all top rated shows that were watched by many more than the top watched shows we have these days.

The UK is one of the most tolerant and accepting countries in the world. For those who might disagree I suggest you try being an ethnic minority person in China, Japan or a Christian in the likes of Iran, Saudi or Egypt. We have benefited hugely in many ways from our multi ethnic society for a long time. However I will say that debating the merits and downfalls of immigration/Emigration should never be deemed as racist as our ex government tried to deem it. For me its a political and economic discussion no different to Defence, Taxation, Policing etc etc. As far as football, I can honestly say in 35 years of following City I've hardly seen or heard any racism aimed at players.

When a remake was announced and they said they were going to change the name to Digger there was the usual daily mail furore of 'PC gone mad' etc. All the comment were saying this was the a terrible thing to do and the film makers were literally pissing on their kids.
A little to keen to see the name stay for some reason!
Not an issue either way in my opinion.

This was a time of great shortages, a common theme amongst planned economies. there would be shortages because industry was focused on making munitions, tanks, planes, guns etc. not providing for the people.
So what if the divide is increasing? Surely its your own circumstances that matter and that the living standards of the poor increase? Politics of envy coming into it here? if the divide increases and the economy has to rely on the rich to spend, the economy is weak because when the rich stop spending (e.g. Have nothing to buy, or economy has a wobble) the economy collapses and the effects devastating, e.g. Stock Market crash of 1929 that was followed up by the 'The Great Depression' of the 30s, only to relieved by the efficiency of the war economy which America used even till the 60s.
Whilst I don't condone how workers are treated in those countries, surely they are better off than without a job at all? Would you prefer it if those companies closed up and moved their factories back to the west? the workers' usually lived in the countryside, but seemed to moved into the city, and did so with the promise of a better life. It didn't happen and they have been cheated by the system. The companies are only there because of slave labour available, so yes, I would like it if they stopped exploiting those workers and pay them a proper wage and give them democratic rights.
I am not familar with Chinese history so I will not comment on that, but in pre revolution Russia the peasants were treated with total contempt. The Tsar's dictitorial manor also contributed to the revolution. Most working people just wanted to be listened to and have some food, not create a new world order. actually, there is evidence to suggest the Bolsheviks were very popular. I've just read a book (by a liberal btw) who said the Russian proletariat was militant and revolutionary (hence the Bolsheviks' popularity over other socialist groups, only near contender was the liberals who got 4% of the vote in 1918) and the peasantry was 'anarchic' in nature. The election in 1918 saw the Bolsheviks get 25% of the vote (SRs 47%) but the Bolsheviks got a clear majority with the 'proletariat', in Petrograd and Moscow and some divisions of the army, where they lost the election (and why they closed the assembly) is because they weren't as well known with the peasantry as the SRs. Point is, many people wanted to create a new world order.

The Factory Act was a reaction the 'Labour Movement' of the time.
As for the NHS, as long as its free at the point of use, and remains a high standard, then what does it matter? when it becomes privatised, the emphasis shifts to profit making, thats when quality of care goes down.
But we have never had a full Captilalist state, and I would not want to live in one. Free healthcare and free education fit perfectly into a regulated capitalist model as both help the economy. The country would be in a mess if everyone was either stupid or dead. It seems to be forgotten that a capitalist society introduced free education and the police. the police is the first line of the repressive system. Well, the riot police. There should be some kind of authority but not in the form of the police force in this system. Free education? I think that is a reaction to external pressure. We don't have free education for higher education which is a shame, and hypocritical of those who scrapped it, as they had free uni fees!
