Just logged back in here for the first time in many years when I saw this thread.

I think that it was around then that I started to check-out as a Cov fan. I still check the score and watch occasional games but losing my Dad (only Cov fan I knew) and then the shit-show of that period meant a lot of that passion for the club disappeared.

My timeline is all over the place but around this point was the game away at Crewe: probably the worst game of football I'd ever experienced. Shaw was in charge and 'toxic' is exactly the word. Much worse than the end of the Strachan era which did get nasty. That Crewe game was just awful (did Kilbane threaten a fan and then retire?) I thought relegation would just be followed by more.

Didn't think anything good would come of it. In fact, another poster mentioned how we thought we'd romp the Championship when we went down. I think we all did. I remember the first game away at Stockport, the atmosphere was fantastic but it was bit of a wake-up call.

So happy (from afar) to see what's happening this season. Especially as my Dad also brought me up a Hearts fan. What a season.

It’s weird. I look back at the L2 days now with rose tinted glasses and the journey to now being great. Forest Green away even though we lost was unique- as was a lot of away games.

But you forget how soulless everything felt. Particularly remember the stress of the semi final home game versus Wycombe in the checkatrade - at that point a Wembley visit was a massive highlight for us all.

When we got relegated from the prem and signed Hughes from the Baggies I also naively thought we’d walk the league!
