I know of another player the same. Very good player who spent most of his career at Swansea. Had a few offers over the years but was very happy at Swansea until Lampard let him know he would like to sign him. He then didn't play again until the transfer was completed.
May have been because the club made it be known his salary would go up by a large amount. As for Hughes I'd be surprised if this deal happens.

Really don't think doubling our transfer record on a CB is worth it

We'd have to get promoted to justify it.
Which is what the idea is.

We paid about £3.5m for Grimes when he was coming up to 30 years old. That was said by some to be a waste of money but has been worth every penny. Signing Hughes for up to 4x the amount sounds a lot but you would end up with a sellable asset and most probably get the fee back plus more.

He was already on a good wage. One of the reasons he was happy at Swansea. We wouldn't have broken our wage structure for him.

Any Hughes deal could go either way. They're in financial difficulties after taking a big gamble mid season to get promoted and failing miserably. They need both the player and the money. On an educated guess I would say he will play the last game for them this weekend then a deal will be done if we've offered enough....unless Woolfenden is prised from Ipswich before then.

The biggest surprise for me would be if we didn't bring in at least a CB by Monday evening.

Well that’s the thing for me. He’s not “clearly” going to get better. Hopefully he will, but it’s certainly not clear cut!
21 years old and club captain at his last 2 clubs.

If a player can continue improving at a club like Hull imagine how much he could continue to improve with Lampard and his team playing at the top end of the table. There's a lot more chance of him continuing to improve surrounded by good players than suddenly regressing.

It would be for me if we don't bring a central defender in because the back ups are Lati( no idea when he will be fit) and

It would be for me too as our back up would be Lati ( no idea when he will be fit) and a Jake Bidwell.

Sounds to me like we had committed to spending on Woolfeden & Goddo. Strasbourg have offered silly money so we have decided to go all in for Hughes. I think we end up with Hughes & a prem loan for the forward, we’re at that point in the window where clubs will consider loans for players they wanted to sell - e.g. Sarmiento at Brighton

Transfer fees seem to have shot up again right across European leagues especially.

Seems like perhaps a 3 rd bid of £10 million has been turned down.

Hull fans thinking this isn't going to happen seem to be completely unaware of the trajectories of both clubs atm.
Time to put these in their place like we did with the Swansea lot still seething about Grimes.
Don't think Swansea were under a transfer embargo ,so why sell your best defender when all you can bring in is free transfers.

If it happens I’m interested to see how Lampard manages having 3 strong CBs for 2 places, but it’s a good problem to have

Hughes starts doesn't he. Can play either side so he plays with whoever is performing better at the time I suppose.

It’ll be Hughes and Thomas I’d expect.

No player should expect to get into a good side that's flying especially just after moving to the club. Then it's down to who is playing the best and who is most suited to the opponents.

Nothing wrong with a bit of squad rotation either.

Or if we did sign him it would actually give us options for different game plans. Could have Bobby for the more defensive minded games and Kitch when we need a better passer through the lines.

One thing will be funny is all of the fans saying £20m would change their tune quickly. Can’t wait to read £12m for Charlie Hughes, he’s shit and we’ve had Coventrys pants down.

Thomas was attracting interest from Sheff Utd and apparently even PL teams, so can't imagine he'd be happy sitting on the bench and would possibly be looking for a move away.

And Kitching has worn the captains armband so highly thought of as well.

Will be a tough decision for sure (if it comes to it).
