Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window (59 Viewers)

I won't be happy, especially as it means MVE won't likely to be sold, meaning we've spunk splashed 4 million on a back up right back. Would be a joke of a transfer window.
And if we sell Rudoni without having a replacement everyone will be unhappy. It's a risk whichever way you do it

we are leaving this rather late now, that is my worry. We sold Binks a fortnight ago
It's just tricky to get targets that would improve us.

For the positions we need we don't want unproven punts, players of the quality we want will have the pick of upper Champ teams so won't be in any rush.

Said it before but we'll be competing with teams that can blow us out of the water financially so negotiations will be hard and probably hinge on who's left in the running for targets at the end of the window.

Beginning to think Doug’s approach to Transfers is a bit like my own to gadgets. I bought an Apple HomePod. When I bought it the reviews were great. It looked great and sounded great. Now, every day I have to restrain myself from smashing it to bits every time it sets an alarm when I ask it to play music and I read reviews of how shit it is and not well-suited to my lifestyle. But I won’t put it on eBay, I won’t get a needed replacement until I get my money’s worth. So now it’s only used as a rest for my coffee mug or when another media player is too injured to play.

Does someone want an Apple HomePod at the launch list price? It must be the inner commodity trader in me.

It’s more like sitting around playing with a piece of string whilst everyone else strengthens

Has everyone else strengthened? Are Sheff U in a better place?

If we keep things in perspective, this team got the 3rd most points in the league post-Xmas, so the squad is in a good place. Now, 1-2 signings would boost us (obviously) but we can afford to be patient in finding the players that will take the team forward.

Earlier in preseason I was asked if I believed the current team could finish in the playoffs and said yes. I still stand by that.

With the team as it currently is I think we’ll finish 8-10th, we need a ST and CB

Any news on the much needed centre back
My interpretation (other opinions may differ ;)) is they've been looking to move MVE on and that's holding up plans. I don't think there's interest at around £15m so that might have to change. I'm sure that they are looking at CB options but don't rule out a lower valued player or even a loan if MVE remains. Neither Bidwell nor Perry are anymore than emergency cover. Was it Brau beaten to the header from the Luton corner. The deficiencies are still there anyway!

Its quality not quantity we need and i think that is where the problem is

We have outgrown some current players that are hard to move on . And put ourselves in a position to reach for higher quality that are harder to get done.

Its takes time to sell the project when the money is not on the table.

We keep playing in the same way we did last season and teams have seen that if they don’t take the bait and just sit deep in front of us, we pass it around without threatening anything and eventually cough up a howler or two at the other end.

I expect many more teams will follow that pretty simple formula and Lampard will stubbornly keep it as it is.

Isn’t that the nub. It’s harder to get quality when you don’t want to (or can’t) pay for it. Or don’t want to take the risk of making a poor recruitment choice. Frozen into inaction?

Tbf we are still creating plenty of chances despite teams supposedly finding us out. As long as that continues we will be fine. Its when the chances dry up we should start to worry

See what you did there - 'Brau beaten'

You're jumping to a conclusion, it's been 2 games and we set up differently between the Hull and Luton games. Discounting the League Cup, if most of our games pan out as it did v Hull, I'm pretty optimistic. It was a disappointing result but we controlled the game well and it's something to build on. The way we played v Luton was encouraging but it was a glorified preseason friendly so you can't read too much into it.

We're working on a strategy to play 4-4-2 so there's evidence that Lampard's approach is evolving and perhaps we just need to see how the transfer window and the next few games pan out.

We have Norwich, Leicester and Blues in September so there's no shortage of difficult games to use as a barometer for progress.

We could do with a CB but Thomas and Kitching as a partnership have done well over 2 seasons. There's room for improvement but it's a good enough pairing to finish in the playoffs.

As for striker, the depth is going to be strong compared to most teams in the league. It is out wide where we lack depth, goals and assists. Rapha probably isn't the answer this season, but the way he unlocked Luton's defence on Tuesday is something we've been missing for a long time and is something that we need.

What clear cut chances did we create against Hull?

Two great chances for Rudoni, two free headers, two great chances for Sakamoto, two great cut backs with nobody on the end, hit the bar...
