Problem is we will be selling players we don’t want at the bottom of their cycle - what sort of money guessing would we get for:

Simms- £2-3 M
Sheaf - £3-5 m (optimistic)
Collins - nothing really
Allen - same
Binks - £1m ?
Eccles £1-2 m
Vic money - £750k
Bidwell - not much

IN- maybe £10m and some headspace on the wages bill. Might be easier to keep most of them

That leaves us with no transfer income (Apart from Rudoni who we keep unless a massive offer ) then that looks like we need to sell MVE as our most valuable asset . £10-15m maybe

That becomes a decent budget plus whatever Doug has already agreed to add. Could be £20m but over a third of that would be needed for a top championship striker.

We also need a goalkeeper until Xmas probably .

I’m confident we only need two strong (starters) defensive signings, and moving on squad players with improved depth options to have another year of improvement. Biggest issue for us this year has been the slow start and injuries, we iron the defensive issues we began with and we see a Sunderland level season (points wise) or even a 3rd place challenge.

Strikers are going through a dry spell and it has not just appeared. Outside of Wright hattrick, the strikers have not been free scoring. A lot of that comes down to the new tactics and their familiarity with it, a good pre-season may get simms full of confidence and give us a powerful 15-20 goal a season player alongside a scoring midfield. However, I would not be against a good upgrade on him.

We obviously need starting calibre players at LB, CB and GK. I imagine Lampard will want upgrades at ST and RW as well. It’s a much bigger job than we faced last summer.

Not one of those make our team better. They are mid-table championship signings.
Morris is better than Simms, also has PL experience 11 goals in 38 games…

Dolan has 13 goal involvements this season for a team who finished 7th, good competition for Sakamoto certainly better than Raphael…

Harry Darling or Latibeaudiere? Easy choice for me Darling

We don’t really want sakamoto to have competition, I would say sakamoto is the standard we need to be the competition should we sign a rw. Although I do like Dolan, he just doesn’t fit our model.

Darling will want to be a starter and he is not of the standard to do that here. A top-level centre half is what we need and to have kitching and Thomas as very good options in that area.

Simms also has Prem experience, Morris has been dross this season. He is a physical presence but I would argue that he is on the decline now. As above, he just doesn’t fit our model. We are looking to get ROI and every signing, doesn’t work everytime but it’s what we should be aiming for till we get up.

You do need Sakamoto to have competition. When he is injured there is then someone to step in or even just needs a rest or a different type of winger. Darling could be a starter here. He has been Swanseas regular centre half for a few years now.

Sakamoto does need cover, competition without it, we have no cover and have to change shape as we did earlier this season.

Do think a winger will be on the list just due to them trying to get one in for January. Wonder if the club will re look at Sobra Thomas if we don’t go up. As according to a few it was very close to being done?

My point is not that he doesn’t need competition, I think sakamoto should be the backup and excellent competition to an upgrade rw (one that has a bit more pace and physical presence).

Would you sign Darling if we won the playoffs? I think we are in a position to be a little more ambitious and utilise the European leagues for talent. If we finished 9th or 10th I would say daring may be a good option. My opinion is we could do better. I take your point though.

Strongly agree on the Sakamoto point. He’s a quality player but does lack the consistency to be a top end Championship winger. Let’s assume we keep Rudoni and Wright into next season, you need a 3rd goal threat who can get 10+ goals in a season. Perhaps EMC can elevate his game next season but unless Wright, Rudoni and maybe Simms play, I’m struggling to see where the goals are coming from elsewhere. Frankly, Simms form this season hasn’t been good enough.

Statistically, Sakamoto is one of those players that is decent at everything but does not stand out in any particular area. The hallmarks of a solid role player imo.

If we go up clearly we go after a higher calibre of player. Darling in the championship however...

I think the intention was for Rapha to be the cover, although obviously he hasn’t (yet) stepped up to the level.

A decision needs to be taken about him. If we think he is capable of making the grade then we have higher priorities than having three right wingers. If we think he can’t then we should sell him and look elsewhere for cover.

Can’t believe some want Moore or Morris. Talk about backward steps. Morris has been terrible this season and Moore is early thirties averageness. We need to make the squad better, not worse.
Moore played for a club that won promotion last season and has scored tonight for a club that could well go up this season. The idea that we’re too good for him is bonkers.

There's a couple of potentials I've been looking at to replace Simms if he goes.

Tugud Forkov currently at Galatasaray - not getting any game time but would cost a few quid.

Bahndur wi Ban-jo currently at Zwolle in Dutch league, though there's been a few criticisms for his shooting accuracy recently.

It’s more the idea that people think we are going to be able to get a 24-26 year old proven goalscorer with the funds we will have. Mad.
