Think the days of the club bringing in players into their 30 s might we'll be over under DK.

Yep. I guess his ‘quality on the ball’ is what helped Preston to a 20th place finish.

It’s goals we need ffs.

When will people realise that because a team finishes low down it doesn’t mean all their players are shit? Hell, we finished 16th with Hamer starting most games.

Not me. Still got a better positional sense than Da Silva and gets in crosses with his left foot. We need a new LB with Bidders as back up and give Da Silva the old heave ho. All that dandy dan dribbling but no end product

Da Silva was class, last 10/12 games, Bidwell was poor

I was a bit suprised we paid big money for Grimes who's 29.
Certainly not Doug's usual type of signing but a good one nevertheless.

It was fucked up by Robin’s , not plugging our midfield hole , when it was so obvious .
Lampard first transfer window & a more experienced player , would be hard to find .
Grimes , with his fitness history , could well be with us for another 3 seasons yet , so let’s enjoy his talents.

Players who stand out in poor teams are always worth a look

If you manage to look decent in teams as shite as Cardiff and Preston (in the case of Salech and Riis) then I'd argue you are good enough to play in a better side

Pretty lazy view from you tbh

I can't even remember how Maguire came up in the thread, I just gave my opinion that I don't rate him and in a hypothetical scenario that he was offered to us I wouldn't have him, it literally wasn't an argument

No you stated if somoene offered us maguire and to pay all his wages you'd say no, suggesting he wasn't an improvement on our current bunch.

He'd come in, play every minute and be captain.

They are. I know somebody who knows him well, he's had to put up with a lot of shite including death threats. Sounds like a really good lad as well and he showed a lot of class after the semi final.

Fuck it, break the wage ceiling and get him in Doug

Let’s not pretend he wouldn’t still walk into every team in the championship though. Is he a top 5 player? Maybe not - but he’s still a top defender

Too much is made of the keeper for me. Dovin was outstanding and saved his defence a lot, I’m not sure that’s a positive for his defence.

LCB is priority 1 for me. If we don’t improve our defensive record we don’t go up. Thomas needs someone who can coach him in game. GK is important but only for half the season. Push came to shove I’d go again with the rest of the first XI. Or even better a coach on par with Lawrence who can set us up better. It may be that Lampard just plays like this of course, in which case we need to evolve the front line beyond “cross it and hope” if we want to just outscore teams and not keep flailing against a low block at 0-1.
I’m not sure I agree that we only need a keeper for half a season. Yes Dovin is a major improvement on Collins, but let’s be honest that is a low bar. If you look at the 3 teams that went up, they all have great keepers that would walk into our side even with an inform Dovin. I’m sure Trafford contributes massively to Burnley’s miserly defence.
yes, a quality LCB and LB are imperative, but a decent keeper will help our defensive record no end.
