All opinions Sparksy. Grimes in my view is the most complete defensive midfielder I have ever seen in our shirt. 100% makes us tick. Torp is more on an 8.most complete? except the fact he doesn’t score or have any pace. Torp is more complete than him
You said most complete midfielder so apologies if i misunderstood your pointAll opinions Sparksy. Grimes in my view is the most complete defensive midfielder I have ever seen in our shirt. 100% makes us tick. Torp is more on an 8.
No but I think we won't sell them if we go upthey won’t be starters
i think we would need to sign more than that if we are letting all those lot goNo but I think we won't sell them if we go up
Think we will need around 5 or so quality signings in and get rid of
Allen
Bidwell
Eccles
Brau
Raphael
Wilson
Lati
no worries -I could have been clearer. You said most complete midfielder so apologies if i misunderstood your point
Think some people aren't appreciating the gulf between the prem and the championship.
We've seen teams get 90-100+ points in the champ and absolutely sink without trace in the prem. And some of the more successful promoted teams (like Sunderland) spend £££ and basically replace the entire starting 11.
Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Grimes, Saka, EMC, BTA, Torp etc. are just out of their depth post promotion.
Interesting article in today's ST, which said, if I have this right:-You think we'll be spending over 100 mill then?
Of course nothing wrong with spending big to try to surviveInteresting article in today's ST, which said, if I have this right:-
1. Sunderland are way out performing previous promoted teams
2. They spent £160m in the summer
3. That may seem a stupendous amount of money, but their parachute payments would be £200m or so were they to go down.
4. So they are covered
5. His argument was that parachute payments give a promoted team a chance to compete.
In which case were the owners of Luton and Southampton remiss?
Spend nothing = You are almost certainly doomedOf course nothing wrong with spending big to try to survive
We had people on here bigging up litons business and look what happened. Meanwhile they laughed at forests window with nonsense about too many new players to gel etc and they stayed up
I love Torp, but he ain’t better than Hamer.Torp is still a bit slept on imo, as much chance as anyone of stepping up. Hamer was fairly decent in the Prem for a woeful Blunts. Torp is better.
Am I being really naive thinking if we are still well ahead of the pack come January, we will basically have the pick of available Prem loans and a huge queue of agents knocking on our door saying their players would love to sign for us? Is 4-5 in that big a leap?
I don't even think that's bare minimum, at this stage that's all that we really need.
It's a false economy to flood a settled and well performing side with a load of players half way through a season.
A couple of new additions should be more than ample to see us through to the end of the campaign.

If we only spent 40m in the premier league relegation would be guaranteed. King and Lampard have far ambition than thatI would be shocked if we spent £100m if we got promoted. I'd imagine Doug would pay off the mortgage on the CBS first, then spend circa £40m on the squad and the balance on increased player wages and infrastructure.

I love Torp, but he ain’t better than Hamer.
After watching 17th placed West Brom pull apart our defence yesterday, I’d be terrified of what Premier League attacks would do to us if we only spent £40m.I would be shocked if we spent £100m if we got promoted. Yes because it's completely unnecessary.
The worst thing you can do with a winning side is flood it with new players, especially when they aren't really needed.
Bringing in that many players in a January window is usually only reserved for the desperate.
He is.I love Torp, but he ain’t better than Hamer.
A winger who can play either side, a CM and that's it as far as I'm concerned.I think ideally we want two wingers and probably a CM and an AM
Torps fitter and Hamers fatter!I love Torp, but he ain’t better than Hamer.
Stats from this season disagree unfortunately. Torp is better at shooting, Hamer better in possession and passing, about equal defensively. He is.
This was my guess at what Doug would do........it's not what I would do!If we only spent 40m in the premier league relegation would be guaranteed. King and Lampard have far ambition than that
Hamer wins on yellow cards!Stats from this season disagree unfortunately. Torp is better at shooting, Hamer better in possession and passing, about equal defensively.
If you think Hamer has had a better season than Torp it might be time to put the stats sheet down. Torp is a monster player for us under Lampard. Hamer on the other hand, even Blunts fans would tell you he's been poor.Stats from this season disagree unfortunately. I agree, but I'm guessing at what Doug might do. He's been pretty calculating on where his investment has been spent. After watching 17th placed West Brom pull apart our defence yesterday, I’d be terrified of what Premier League attacks would do to us if we only spent £40m.
King will back Lampard pretty hard I think. Will be way more than £40 million. After watching 17th placed West Brom pull apart our defence yesterday, I’d be terrified of what Premier League attacks would do to us if we only spent £40m.

I can't see us getting that many loans in during the January window.
The parent clubs will want their players to get plenty of game time and I think we only need, at most, 1-2 starters plus 1-2 squad players. I wouldn't want to disrupt the team with too many starters if we are still running away with the league. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Torp's been in the goals whereas Hamer hasn't, but if you look at other parts of their game Hamer has still performed better overall. If you think Hamer has had a better season than Torp it might be time to put the stats sheet down.
