I don't get why they didn't just say business concluded.

I don't think the communication has helped at all

Not every club does tweet that. It seems to be a modern thing because people are so desperate for signings.

If they had put that tweet out, it would have brought more negativity from our fans who have already lost their heads.

This window has been wack. The saving grace is we own the stadium that is what save the hierarchy all the criticism. Kept hearing about 2 lists they had at the end of last season of targets, guessing they lost the stayed in the championship list!

Probably changed when we spent £40m on a stadium I'd imagine.

And still Lampard never seemed to rate him by leaving on the bench, Eccles is an ok midfielder who lacks concentration at times and also follows the same standard Sheaf set by givin the ball away in stupid places

Well he either rates him now and is more than happy for him to be first backup midfielder, or he must be really pissed off at selling Sheaf with no replacement.

Hakim Ziyech on a free? Lampard signed him for Chelsea, he said at the time the lure of playing for Frank was a major part of his decision. Obviously the amount of money they threw at him was probably a bigger contributory factor. Needs to play regularly to get back in the Morocco squad, only other team I’ve seen linked are Elche.

The reaction to Austin is crazy.

Look at the last 48 hrs for almost every club, even the champions Liverpool. Their biggest signing in the final day and one long term target missed.

Why do we think we should be able to operate in a different way to every other club ???

We’re talking about the last six months

The bedwetters should remember last summer when they went into melt down because we did nt sign Matty James only for us to sign Matty Grimes in January.

Don’t get me wrong id have liked another attacking player to have come in but it’s been a very positive summer.

There are good free agents let's not talk wet, but I would imagine the top ones on that list will be out of our wage range.

Insanity if we saw us the last two seasons and thought what we needed was fewer players of quality.
After sleeping on it.

We have the best right back in the league and another right back( who's pretty versatile) on the bench who would walk into more than half the teams in the league.

We have 3 absolute top quality centre backs. Top 6 material. Lats as back up isnt bad at all.

A better keeper than Wilson and Collins.

What's not to like.

Kept our best players. We will still likely have on the bench vs Norwich:

Simms
Asante
Eccles
Allen
Kane Hesler
Thomas
Bidwell
Wilson

That's a strong bench!

Not to mention arguably the best player in the league.

So looking at our squad and squad size, we’ve got three spaces we can add.

Imagine the priority is a left winger, CM, and a ST (as assume Asante will be used on the RW now).

Tom Lawrence seems an obvious one, played under Lampard before and covers both EMC (right footed left winger) and Rudoni. Don’t imagine he wouldn’t fit within our wage budget and seems a quick fix to our wing depth.

I doubt we paid cash.

Regardless of how we or who paid it, I definitely think it was a curveball.

Even before the stadium, it was pretty clear we needed to sell somebody before buying.

We've balanced the books nicely now. I know people won't like that because there's a clear desperation to get promoted.

It wasn't a curveball, they'd have been working on it for months and King explicitly said that it wouldn't affect the transfer activity.

The reality of the situation is that we haven't had offers for our players we thought would materialise and we've not been able to get our targets over the line because of it.

The books will be interesting but as we saw with a decade of sisu ultimately meaningless and have no impact on the clubs success on the pitch. I don’t think it was but if you’re saying it was promotion or stadium IMO we made the wrong choice.

This is definitely true also.

Love how we discuss free agents immediately after a window closes in pure panic.

Its like going back to work after Xmas and immediately looking to book the next week off in Jan because you dont wanna go back.

The reality is, you dont book that week off because why would you. And we wont sign some dross out of contract player because why would we and now the season is underway and we focus on the squad we have.

When injuries, suspensions and being knackered hit, our bench looks like this...

Wilson
Bidwell
Allen
Lati
Andrews
Perry
Batanwi
Struggling with this last one (maybe Betjemann - seems like the most senior of the U21 players left)

I remember he was good at Derby but what level is he at now?

This is an extract from the Scottish herald

"After three years at Ibrox, the 31-year-old has moved on at the end of his contract following a campaign in which he was a bit-part player.
Lawrence displayed his ability throughout his Gers spell but was never quite able to put it together consistently to become a key player, with injuries playing their part in that."

While I am not immediately against another Patterson type signing, I would personally prefer to put his wages and signing in fee (which as you say will not be cheap) towards a top quality addition to the team in the new year.

Really?

Everyone wants our season in the sun but most people have had the best 5 years supporting the club. It's great going up to the CBS with a full house and good match day experience. For me, I want to be competitive and have exciting seasons. The PL may happen, it may not.

I don't want us to go silly and gamble on automatic promotion. I certainly wouldn't change owning the stadium for promotion this season.

I get that, I just think we need the cover on the wings now especially when so much of our system relies on it.

Personally would do a lot more business on the free agent side to build depth but I get the opinion especially as we don’t have unlimited funds

The idea of a window is to strengthen. Not to add assorted dross. We’re not building a squad from scratch, we’re finessing a top 5 team. We’ve added RB cover, LB strength and we’ve swapped Binks for Woolfenden and added Rushworth. We had to do the deal for Sheaf and he was impacting less and less. The days of plugging gaps left by endless loans and cheap gambles that haven’t paid off are thankfully gone.

We have one of the best 11’s in the league

we just have to get through till January with what we have
That’s the concern for me and why I’d be looking at free agents especially now where we have a week to get fitness up.

We are going to get injuries to our starting 11 it’s already happened with Sakamoto. We are currently way too reliant on luck in this regard imo

Not to mention arguably the best player in the league.

Our biggest faux pas this window is that while we've somewhat solved certain problem areas, we've actually created issues in other departments.

Letting Sheaf go was undoubtedly a financial decision, which I can understand given the fee received, but to do it without another midfielder coming in the opposite way is a risk. I would've used his spot to bring in further support behind Rudoni.

Not really sure why we let Raphael go. I can only assume FL now sees BTA as his RW and Brau will be a hybrid LW/LB. But we're now very short in actual wingers.

There are positives. Glad we were able to address the defence and GK positions, with us being able to move on some players which were surplus to requirements.

Ultimately it's clear it was a tough window. We undoubtedly tried to get more signings over the line but for whatever reason that didn't come off.

We're still a disjointed side, which hopefully we'll look to address further in the next window.

Can we still not get loans in? Not sure on rules this year
