Great business to get 6.5m, but i'd be staggered if we haven't got his replacement lined up.

Rubbish, it is not criminal at all. It is great business for someone who is injured regularly, and even when fit hasn't been good enough last season.

Let's trust Doug. The guy knows what he's doing.

This is when we need @AFCCOVENTRY scouring twitter for the replacement being linked

Decent fee, sad to see him go. Have very little faith in us replacing him in 26 hours. Really hope there's someone we've already had talks with and we'll just pounce on that now

That’s a huge gamble now.

It would be a gamble keeping a player who’s last patch of decent form was in 2023-2024 season and is fit for 20 games a season when we have an offer of 6-8 million.

It depends on the replacements we can get in. It's ok getting people out the door but

I hope he fails his medical

I know it’s only a joked about on here, but I’ll only accept Hamer as a replacement, nothing less

Compare transfers - Grimes £3.5m vs Sheaf £6.5m
No contest...Grimes is superior in every way.
£6.5m fee for Sheaf is great business because his injury record is so poor.
Can feel a loan in to cover midfield until the next transfer window, unless the club had enough notice of Wrexham approach.

Win win for me. I like sheaf so if he stays fine

But he is injury prone and 6.5m is a good fee and I am sure we will have plans how to spend it

Looks likely this is happening now. Tomorrow will be interesting. Could see a few in and out.

We may have over 20m to spend if we really wanna. Will be hard to get all targets over the line on final day though

Sheaf out £6.5m Hamer in loan with obligation, extra couple of mill to break Hulls resolve, loan in some kid for the wings.

Considering we have a recruitment team, it would be a monumental failure if they didn’t have an up to date list of realistic possible replacements that we could get in for essentially any player that could leave.

Question of whether you can get it done though I guess.

I think we’re ok for defensive ish midfielders. If we’re going to lose anyone who isn’t a left back or a keeper it’s a CM

Yes, in the past he has. Not recently though. Sometimes you have to gamble on the right time to sell a player. I think in Sheafs case that was end of 2024 season

I think the mindset needs to shift. We don't have to sell. We'll only sell when there's a plan to upgrade or build value over time with a younger player with potential. We've recruited well with a deliberate plan in the last few years....this is not Dom Hyam fire sale territory

You would hope they came calling on Sheaf and kept it quiet until they could agree a fee. If so we would of known its on the cards and been doing the same elsewhere...

Again, the recruitment team should have at least a vague idea of the possibility of getting it done. If not, they’re not doing their job probably because they’re busy looking for recommendations in this thread…

If we get a replacement by end of tomorrow then 6.5m is a brilliant bit of business. If we don't then it's absolutely shite

Edit* just watched the first half of Liverpool Arsenal. And if that's what the prem has to offer, I'd rather stay in the championship. Absolutely dire

I swear this thread thinks the rules are that we can only buy former players Hamer, O’Hare, Doyle. I’m half expecting someone to say we should re-sign Yakubu at this point

Huge lack of respect for our captain and good servant. Injury record not what any of us would wish but he's far better than Allen or Eccles and id prefer those moved on instead. I know some would want this anyway, but lots of fickleness on show here. If he moves, he moves, hopefully for a decent fee and with a replacement lined up.
