What if we didn’t actually sign anyone, apart from the obvious ( keeper cover and torp cover ) we wouldn’t be far off again would we ? Could argue we had our best run with loads of injuries, when Allen stepped up, wouldn’t expect too many coming in, 2 or 3 quality signings over 6 or 7 average ones ?

This lad is a CB, young and market value 1.5 mil, he's quick and physical and intercepts alot of the oppositions attacks, he also gets on the end of set plays... Looks a good proposition

At that age he doesnt exactly fit what Doug usually goes for.

Neither did Grimes and we paid a 7 figure sum for him.

So? By that logic we could sign Kevin De Bruyne then

Logic? Just pointing out someone isn't on 60k a week when they're out of contract. And most probably won't get offered as much as that now either.

I highly doubt Lampard joining the club will signal a change in recruitment policy. Grimes was a top end Championship midfielder that was available reasonably cheaply.

We’ll need to sell him if we want to the budget to push on again.

Think you’re referring to Van Ewijk here but the same applies to Wright. Will be a pain in the arse to lose him but he’ll be 28 next summer and I’d argue the window of opportunity to get a sizeable fee will have gone by then.

Almost definitely and generally, his preference is to work with younger players and he’s made that clear when talking about it his coaching style.

Robins was more involved with recruitment than we think to be honest and if he did take a step back, it would’ve definitely been his own doing. I just cannot imagine a scenario where Robins would’ve asked to be more active in recruitment and being told no.

By the sounds of murmurings from ITKs, he pushed for specific targets such as BTA.

Frank has won a tonne of things as a players always with a mix of young and proven players. I doubt he will move far from that model as a manager.

We don’t have a particularly young side anymore, I’d expect to add one more ‘experienced’ pro but rest of the signings being 25-26 and under.

On a podcast I was listening to Ian Graham (Liverpool Head of Data under Klopp) said the best way to build a squad is to integrate 3 first team players per season (you can sign more players but only 3 should play over 2000 minutes in their first full season)

Players are able to develop an understanding with each other while the new lads allow enough freshness so tactics don't go stale & teams work you out. Liverpool went from 8th in the Prem to 97 points & Champions League winners following this model

In terms of our squad build & signings playing over 2000 minutes:

23/24:
- 8 summer signings (Thomas, MvE, Wright, Ellis, Lati, Collins, JDS, and Kitching)
- Saka just missed out so 9 including him

24/25:
- 2 summer signings (Dovin, Rudoni) & 1 Jan 24 signing (Torp)
- Grimes & EMC semi-integrated having played 1365' & 1635' respectively

What positions do you think we'll bring in players who play 2000+ minutes next year? For me its LB, CM, ST (& RB if MvE leaves)

Good post. Agree with your positions for next season, only one being CM - really interested what happens hear - does Sheaf go? If he stays can he re capture form? I still think we are missing a dynamic all action, physical type and would like to see this bought in.

If it’s only 3, then:

CB
LB
RW/LW

Realistically, you probably have to add a GK as a bare minimum. This is on the presumption there’s no outgoings which seems unlikely.

The squad is in a good place, but the gulf between us and the relegated teams will be large so we’ll need to add a little bit of everything to the squad.

I'd be tempted by Diangana if wages were reasonable. Versatile, experienced and always scored against us!
