If we sign tyrique George our chances of getting promoted rise significantly, unreal talent

But then you potentially stifle Andrews growth. A loan as a first choice is better than him getting occassional minutes off our bench

True but there isnt any standard here if he is sat down all season. As good as he has been or potentially is he isnt starting over probably 4 of our current midfield and maybe 5.

"Clearly, there are some areas of the squad which have more back-up than others, and we're aware of it."

Another area of debate is whether or not City need another centre forward; Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante both featured on Wednesday, but with Haji Wright still not yet fit and Norman Bassette omitted from the squad amid speculation linking him with a move abroad, there could yet be a need for new blood in that area later down the line.

"Not at the moment, but we'll see," Lampard added. "I don't want to get drawn on the position specifics, it's our business to find a way to help the squad if we need to."

Andrews is putting himself higher up the rankings within the squad. I wouldnt be shocked if he is very close to sticking in and being in every 1st team squad. Still early days but he certainly hasn't hurt his chances of breaking through.

If we get one injury though he becomes first/second choice off the bench.

I think 15 games equivalent at this standard is miles more beneficial for him making it here than a full season at LEague 2

He’s destined for big things. We need to integrate him into the squad this season.

I wouldn't be shocked i posted last week his stock is rising very very fast. I heard something a couple of weeks ago on him posted he has jumped a over couple of established players and was laughed at.

Lets see but he is looking good

Surely its only Allen he can jump ahead of?

Time will tell, but he is showing up and been a big bonus to FL. That loan probably done him the world of good and being around FL who shows confidence in you must be an unbelievable situation for a young player starting off in the game.

Absolutely no evidence of that last season. He was pants on the right wing, see also Posh chairman's comment and he should know. EMC is a great player but he's got to learn

Is he really likely to get much game time, if any? Keeping him around for a season could equally harm his development if he doesn't get many minutes.

He's clearly ready for first team football but he needs consistent game time to gain experience and develop as a player.

Another loan at this stage is probably the more sensible option to see how he fares over a full season - baring in mind although it was a good taste of first team football, he didn't get that many minutes at Motherwell last season.

This surely means a CB is incoming ahead of a striker. 'Not at the moment but we will see' means hopefully soon IMO regarding a striker

Yeah let’s just let him go for nothing, instead of trying to pick up 300k for him. Utterly ridiculous

Yeah the thing is, the other party has to be willing to pay 300k to pick it up.

I would like to see us develop Kai Andrews and Callum Perry. But fans do moan about we need more experience, while in the next breath wanting to get rid of our more experienced players.

Players like Allen and Latibeaudiere shouldn't be underestimated for their influence, off the pitch, in training and in the dressing room. Even if they aren't regular starters they can play an important role within the group.

@Matt smith

For reference of Chelsea loaners, Tyrique George has had a few offers from championship clubs.

Think it was us, Sheffield United and another top one. Can't find the article but I just saw it and thought agent talk as there's not much else on it.

Probably paying him what, 10k a week? So the financial benefit of holding out for a modest fee diminishes each week.

Potentially, but sometimes having control over the training and coaching he receives can also be important. If he goes on loan you relinquish that.

It's a judgement call Frank will make. There are arguments for both and how often Frank thinks Andrews will make the bench will be key.

I'd like to see EMC make an impact at RW and whilst he may have played his best football at LW, the way he plays could lend itself well to RW.

Unless we sign a 'blue chip' LW, there isn't much point moving him about. My preference would be sign a RW but find it interesting we've been linked with more LW than RW. Bertaccini player mostly LW last season, Zahoury is LW and only the Genoa lad is a RW who can play LW. According to @Jimmy87, we were in talks with 2 right sided players and one was KKH so perhaps a RW could be close.

We'll wait and see, we're definitely in the market for at least one wide player. Hopefully two.

Frank did say in his interview after the game yesterday that Kai has shown he's ready to compete for minutes, so it sounds like he'll be sticking around.

Hoping it's the case because he's looked pretty impressive so far this preseason and I have to say he didn't look out of place when he came on last night.

Andrews is certainly one for the future and if he develops as he has been he could be a top player for us. Same as Perry, seems highly regarded by Lampard in the pre season.

We have a few good talents in the youth ranking so our future is looking good at the moment.

Disagree with this, a season in league 2 playing most games is way more beneficial at 18. I think he'd have takers in Lg1. Here he's going to be sat on the bench, might get 10 mins here or there at best. But building up mins in mens football is so good for young talents. I'd send him out he's guaranteed to start for 6 months and asses how he's doing in Jan

Personally I don’t see the harm in Andrew’s having a season on League 1 or even 2 obviously with the “right” club who want to play through the midfield and have a decent surface on which to play on . If he is considered that good that he could stay then maybe just maybe we could cash in on Eccles and keep Allen ? Just a thought

Question then:

Will our modest spend be enough to keep us competitive (assume we get a CB and a few outs to come here and there) or will Birmingham and Wrexham add to the mix with the parachutes and push us out?

If everyone is fit all season then we're still a top 6 side but that's a big if, in fact it's already looking like we won't have everyone fully fit going into the season.
I'm not as impressed by Birminghams team as some seem to be be but will happily accept they've got us done on depth. Outside of 2 or 3 on our bench the standard starts to fall off a cliff.
With other teams kicking on, we're still short imo.

Yeah but we’ve got people to sell and Wright isn’t fit for two weeks so if he’s off that will be last minute if we’re waiting.

As it stands this is out leanest summer transfer window I think ever, certainly of the level of Sisus final summer. So either I hope we’ve got business to do or I’m a little concerned about our financial state.

If Wrexham continue to invest at the rate they currently are I wouldn't be all that shocked if they did a Bournemouth potentially.

They generate a huge amount of commercial revenue relative to their size but their squad needs a huge amount of investment so I don't imagine that would be for the next 2-3 seasons, if it did happen at all.

Birmingham is an unknown, if they don't go up over the next couple of seasons they'll be in huge trouble. I very much question their recruitment strategy.

It could well be more than that too but either way, he'll still have to be careful not to over do it when he is better and fully fit.
