The exact same stuff was said about Tyrese Campbell and Keiffer Moore last summer. 2 free 'unexciting' strikers who've lead their side to promotion (well soon hopefully), while we were spunking needless money on BTA.
Eh? Campbell has been brilliant for them and Moore has been more than useful when called upon. Both walk into the striker position in this team. It's not like we'd have paid Moore's wages is it? and he scored 6 goals while Campbell got 10. Hamer scored 10 with seven assists. I don't think either of the first two 'led them' to where they are.
Asante didn't make much sense at the time and hasn't made sense since. Sounds like he was an MR signing - had tried for him before - so I'm not gonna hold that against Austin and co. too much.
Riis I could understand to an extent being a free transfer, coming off a decent season and being an ok age at 26. If we can find better, great. If not, his wages won't be mad so I can see the sense in it.

I think you're missing the point, the same people sneering at known quantities like Riis, who would imo represent a good bit of business are the same people who thought we were above the likes of Campbell and Moore. We weren't. You are arguing something totally different now.OK, but it's not like we're ever going to pay the kind of wages Moore is on so I don't see the point in using that as a stick to beat us with, or as an example we should follow. We have a pretty tight wage structure.
Looking at Campbell's mins per goal, I take the point but I don't think Utd are where they are because those two carried them. They threw parachute cash at loads of players and hoped it would stick.
Most of them from you tbf.Seriously, there’s been some horrific takes on here lately.

It's not an obsession, Christ the people on this forum are fucking tedious. It's the notion that every player we bring in will be some Hamer quality unknown from overseas. If we want a good squad we need to look at the free market and be smart, we cannot spend millions on everyone, players like Riis represent decent value. If you sell BTA for £3 million and bring in Riis on a free, you've played a blinder.Perhaps, we all drop clangers. Not many will top this strange obsession with mid-players such as Bundu, Campbell and Moore.
Fucking hell man, as i said, tedious forum. If your argument is that we should have tried for Moore, I don't get it. If your argument is Riis could be a similar option but one we could afford, I get it.
I don't agree that those two signings carried them or led them to where they are. Having silly money to gamble on silly wages across the squad did that.
and they might not go up and be a bit f*cked.

As for Campbell being mid at this level.. well i'm not sure what to say, he's been far from mid and was exactly the kind of competitive forward we needed the other night rather than Wright ambling around doing fuck all as the only other option was Simms who looks like he's addicted to horse tranquilisers.
Ok fair.. i think Morris would be better than Simms but that's a low bar, he's not available on a free and certainly not someone i'd be looking at buying. Think we're moving away from the point of the thread and its descended into meaningless back and forth so i'll end that there.Apologies, I meant Morris rather than Campbell!

because someone doesn't agree with you?
Talking to people like they're thick because they don't agree Moore and Campbell led a team to 3rd place is a bit weird. Utd had the League's best player behind them and I count at least 10 players in their squad who will be on more than our highest earner.
Maybe Campbell was a good pick up in hindsight, doesn't mean fans of this club didn't have a point if they preferred other options at the time. He's a 1 in 5 striker and this season is the first time he's hit 10 goals in the league. Hardly a hot take to pass on him.
I only talk to people like they are thick when they are being tbf. You've really taken this 'led the team to 3rd place' thing and ran with it, it's weird. They are the forwards that have played for the team miles ahead of all but 2 of the teams in the league, they were also exactly the kind of signings people on here were sneering at last summer, and we're just seeing it repeat again. We'll need a couple of Championship experienced pros and we can't pay out for all of them.because someone doesn't agree with you?

Wright is better off the left, he's weak down the middle. Campbell starts in this team all day, i can't believe anyone could pay attention to the league this season and suggest he wouldn't really.Haji Wright was the league’s 6th top scorer (joint) with the least amount played of the lot (barring Maja). If he isn’t scoring, the chances are is that it’s not him who is the problem.
As you say, this is a career best season for Campbell playing in a team that’s top 3. Stick him in our team, he probably doesn’t score as many goals.
I think Wright should stay unless we receive a hefty bid, but i'm not sure i want to see him played down the middle again too often. Some of the most criminal performances i've ever seen.Understandably so, but think the raw emotion of how the two Sunderland games played out have coloured a lot of opinions (Wright must go! Eccles must stay! Big lumps up front!) that may not be all that relevant for next season.

Seems like you even agree Riis would be a decent signing so its proper weird to get your knickers in a twist about it. Not sure what your point is about Sheffield Uniteds wage bill either, totally irrelevant stuff.

I haven't decided you are thick, i've decided you are incredibly tedious as you've twisted the conversation to the point i'm not even sure what you are arguing about to be honest. Move on please for all our sakes.Cannon scored as many goals as Campbell and played more minutes. Hamer scored as many goals as Campbell from midfield. Making out that Moore and Campbell made a massive difference looks like an oversimplification to suit your argument.
You say the wage bill point is irrelevant when it's exactly the reason Moore wasn't an option for us. You say people turned their noses up Campbell? All the evidence is that was a good shout. He had a decent season in a good team.
Feels like you've decided I'm thick because I replied to something you said and disagreed? I can live with that.
If you're arguing Simms is a better option up front than Tyrese Campbell then there's nowhere to go from here mate.Rewind one year ago and he had 3 goals in 29 appearances. His record at Stoke, for reference, tracks behind Simms’ career record. 33 goals in 155 appearances before he joined Sheff U.
I’m using Simms as a benchmark because if these strikers will improve us, why are records worse than a player many people think is terrible?

Promise David definitely worth a look for me, think he would be great for us at 9.
Sorry man sold on Salech now

He also doesn't seem to suddenly turn 5 foot whenever the ball is near him.Ball doesn’t bounce six feet from him on his first touch: sold!
