There’s a lot of grown toddlers in this forum!
We were a back pass away from another playoff final. Every neutral I’ve spoken to has said the same thing, over 90m we were the better team in both legs. Sunderland were only better than us in extra time and if a team was winning it before penalties, it was them unfortunately.
We’re a v good team in this division, since Lampard has come in, we’ve been the 4th best team in the division and soundly deserved to be in the playoffs.
That doesn’t mean things can’t be improved in terms of personnel or tactics, but Lampard and his team deserve credit where it’s due.
Indeed, we just need a little bit to turn dominating two games into goals. It doesn't need a complete overhaul.

Emil Riis released by Preston. Is it only us he's looked good against? He looked on a par with Gyokeres in 2021/22!

Had a bad ACL injury. Preston fans don't think he's been the same since. Seems like a contract was offered but wasn't enough.

Riis is better than both, on a free and means we could get money to invest in elsewhere. He’s scored more than Simms and BTA put together this year

Wouldn’t mind keeping Simms as he’s in the model of what we’d want and I do think he could come good.
Some games he did brilliantly, I know someone at Preston and they were saying how much they struggled to deal with him (why they brought on the CB at half time).
Just want consistency and he needs to learn imo to do the boring bit of the role.
Think if you get sell BTA, and bring in an experienced number 9, who could help Simms and Bassette with their development while also playing a role, we could see some improvement from both of them

Exactly that, we need someone with the height and strength to be an option to play it long when we're defending. With Simms and Wright, it just keeps coming back. If you then manage to combine it with someone who's got in the box instincts (similar to Godden), you've got both an aerial threat and someone who gives you an option to put in low crosses too. That's why I suggested this guy:

Was only referring to the training part, heard he was fine in that department. I'm sure they'll have an idea soon enough as to whether they are in the plans or not, sooner the better i think for all involved.
Derby didn’t play with a traditional target man under Lampard - don’t know about Chelsea.
I agree with you that we could do with an out ball up front, but a lot of the names suggested so far (Morris, Riis, McBurnie) seem like the kind of big lumps that would have fared very well in our last two games, and been much less capable in the months of patient passing football that preceded it.

Chelsea had Abraham and I think Everton used Lewin in this way but could be wrong. I think it you watch a lot of our patient play had the target man as Simms. I think it’s just how the role naturally plays. Happy to find someone more technical mind. Ivan Toney seemed a good shout for what attributes we should be looking for (obviously can’t sign toney

They played a 3-4-1-2 shape and he was on the right. Saying he was a winger is like saying MVE is a winger when we player 3 at the back.
He was also not great at playing on the right. Every single time he had the ball he cut inside and when the LWB had the ball he wasn't getting in at the far post as he should have been. The comms people commented on Nathan Jones having a go at him for that.
But you can't expect him to be great at it as he like his uncle Bryan is naturally a left back and that is where he has played most of his football.

He doesn't seem to listen to or retain instruction, his movement / willingness to make runs is poor, he's not a great header of the ball, he can't bring others into play, struggles to control the ball under pressure or even at all, and he shy's away from putting himself in between defenders and challenging for crosses. His footballing IQ generally is pretty appalling to be honest.
Which is a problem as due to us often building up play and progressing the ball quite slowly he needs to either be making himself available to bring others into play or making runs in and around the box to open up space for himself. Which he rarely ever does. Or when he tries, he rarely does it successfully.

How much longer do we persist with Simms though on the potential he might come good? He was brought in after Gyokeres left, with Wright, to lead the line for us up top and he’s not been consistently good enough.

Guys, we dont shop in fucking homefoods and netto anymore, look at all of our past signings in the last two years?
We sign potential from abroad, a club in our leagues best player and captain, or the best player in a lower league team.
The one exception to that i can think of off the top of my head is Jay Da Silva, who half of you would get rid of in the summer anyway and BTA was West Broms top scorer the season before (plus was a very clear Robins, not the recruitment team, signing)
Why are we even mentioning mediocre strikers in a shit preston team or oli mcfuckingburnie?

Sheffield United and Sunderland were the main links to Riis. Same people on here doing that thing where they turned their nose up at someone like Kieffer Moore when he'd have actually been good too.
You've got to play the free market smarter than we have, personally I'd spend out on a striker like Salech and bring the second one free but I'm taking Riis over Simms and BTA all day. Cash in on both asap.

The exact same stuff was said about Tyrese Campbell and Keiffer Moore last summer. 2 free 'unexciting' strikers who've lead their side to promotion (well soon hopefully), while we were spunking needless money on BTA.Came here to say exactly this but already said 10x better

It seems that a lot of the speculation on here is linked to players we've seen in the EFL. However, one thing we have learned over the past couple of years is the recruitment team identifying players we've never seen or heard of. Torp, Tats, Dovin, etc.
It'll be interesting to see what they come up with this transfer window.

We'll do both. We don't have one type of transfer strategy that we rigidly stick to like people who haven't been paying attention are suggesting. We've taken from abroad, from our own league, from league 1..

Salech is the one that would really interest me. Only 23, 6'3 and 8 in 20 for a relegated side.
