Injured at Leicester, full season at Norwich and both managers saw enough in him to play at right back which is not his best position just to get him in the team. Buying Doyle, if affordable would be similar to a Rolex in as much as it would be cash neutral with the chance of making a good profit. For someone like Doug thats the cold sort of business decisions he likes and the kid is desperate for a stable club rather than loans. Like I said before though it aint my money.PUSB

Was injured for a bit but he was in the squad for 30 games and played 17.

No, we were definitely a Play-Off team that year. Look it up on the internet

Doyle would be brilliant for us, but it is still true that promoted sides can afford the asking price no problem and they haven't

Exactly this you’re paying the Man City tax. The same sort of tax that lead to Palmer and Dasilva being worth millions.

We’re in a group where two out of about 8-10 finish in the playoffs.

Haha! He's 21, played 150 career games in this league, represented England youth levels up to the u23s and has played for top Championship sides. We just sold Binks for 3 million, Doyle is worth far more than that!

By this logic Joel Latibeaudiere is worth £15m

In fairness, £5m is more than £3m. I don't think he's worth £10m though, and we can't afford £10m on a defender so it's moot anyway. A loan with an option/obligation to buy if promoted is entirely possible though.

He might be, just not convinced he's the answer to the problem we have i.e. too many goals conceded from quick transitions. Feels like we need a CB with pace to push Thomas and Kitching. Is Doyle quick?

When was the last time we had a centre back with pace? Rose is the only one I can think of. Pacy CBs tend to play in the prem

Agree, so we can loan one from that league or find one with the potential to get there and enough experience to be able to start games straight away i.e. an MVE type signing at CB. If we can't find a good CB with a bit of pace for a few £m, I'd be disappointed.

There is probably a deal to be done for Doyle if he wants the move. Man City use selling youngsters to balance the books, they often sell early and build in clauses so they can get them back later. I'm sure there is a creative way the deal could be structured to make it work for both sides.

We will loan a young CB from the prem and/or pick up a Torp-like player with potential to develop. We won't be splashing big money on anyone.

I thought Doyle the best central defender the City have had for quite a while (Big Mo maybe). And a really good passer - that ball to Vik against Millwall. Precision.

#10m is over the top but it's a negotiation. There may be better in the market for less, but who? Central defence was my number one priority so it would suit me. Can't see it though.

Getting rid of Binks = a real bonus. Others will know more but I thought the story was that fee when we bought him was peanuts but his wages were extortionate. This helped cash flow. In which case I am not sure how we can know whether it was profitable or not. For what its worth I thought he had promise but terrible positional sense - he fancied himself as a left winger sometimes

Would you not class Dann in that bracket? I think he was such a good CB for us and throughout his career too to be fair

Rose is still without a club if you think a 29 yea old pacy cb is what we’re missing.

Think a centre back deal is nearly done.

No way we would let Binks go without a replacement being ready. Will they be in over the next few days ready for the last friendly match on Saturday?

not certainly. If 2.5m was offered and it came up quite quickly then you just have to take it and figure the rest out later. 2.5m for binks and making a profit is undoubtedly great business for us.

Doyle was out injured for four months at Leicester. It's not like he wasn't good enough to make their team.

Hope there are no significant outgoings in the window now, fringe players OK but at this point it's better to hold on to core squad members like MVE.

It's brilliant business by Doug. I can see us bringing a good solidly reliable first choice CB in but not Doyle. Loan to buy would be advisable not 10 mil straight off.

The greatest centre backs of all time havnt been quick. Bullshit you need to be quick to be a great centre back.

Doyles ball down the line to Gyokores for the quick break leading to Hamer goal at Wembley. Was a goal of beauty.

The lad oozes class. If we can get him for around £6m that wpukd be great business.

Don't disagree, just think that for how we play now we need some pace at the back, that it would give us something we don't have and might solve an issue that we need to address (goals against on the break). We're nothing like the side he played in three years ago so I don't see that as massively relevant.

I really rate Doyle. But in our situation £10 million is too much. Maybe £6-7 million with a load of ads ons. But I think 10 would be better invested on two players not one.

This notion that you need to be rapid to be a good centre half is bullshit peddled by people that have never played the game.
I would rather have a slower centre half who can read the game and is excellent positionally than a quick centre half who struggles with those attributes

And what level have you played at out of curiosity?

In this high line system lampard plays, it would be pretty silly to not target a CB with pace.
