Yeah I’ve come around to Onyeka for Grimes and still need someone who can do Torp/Rudonis job on the ball. Still need a CB but that’s clearly not happening.

Get the chequebook out Doug you’re pissing away £100m

If they don't pick up against QPR then I think something is going on in the club! Not one of those players should need a rocket to get the. Motivated! Someone saying we need a centre half! We just spent £4 million on one?

The one we brought looks lost to be honest and is 4th choice. He is looking like a poor signing but so is Brau. Feels like our scouting team needs upgrading as there are as many poor or odd signings as there are good.
Someone mentioned rumours of Rudoni off?? The only thing off is his form and has been since he came back from injury, my understanding is he’s carrying a shoulder problem.
It feels like the team needs a kick up the arse, suddenly they are poor positionally and not at the races at all.

Im genuinely worried about letting Austin loose with £100m should we get promoted.

Why he's generally done very well and assembled a squad that's currently top of the league

He’s spent £40m odd and got a team that’s worth about £40m odd. We’ve not managed to dig up much value in that and have overpaid in a few cases. Lampard has us top but the same team got Robins sacked because it was 17th. The quality isn’t where it should be really for the cash spent.

Someone like Rudi or Thomas will have a purple patch and people on here will claim they’re PL players but in reality none of them are close to the quality of a Gus or Vik and all of them cost a lot more.

He’s a huge downgrade from Badlan.

I disagree but fair enough.

Robins lost the plot that season the same squad got to an fa cup semi final and were a tow nail away from going through.

Made the playoffs last season and this season are top of the league.

40m is not a lot in modern football and that's for the whole squad id say the value has definitely increased compared to what we paid.

Mostly agree with this but did also manage to sign a lot more duds.

£40m (actually closer to £70m) in a couple of seasons is absolutely a lot at this level. This is spend from 23-25, we brought in far less and signed fewer players than similar clubs.

Just looking at that and one thing stood out to me.
The income against expenditure difference is around £15Mat the moment don't see us spending anymore as that's historical and not Current?

Conversely, they have a period of poor form and they are dismissed as not good enough. It's opposite sides of the same coin.

No one is coming in for them really. That’s the ultimate test. I name those two because they’ve had rumours but if they were close to PL quality we’d have had bids.

Austin has built a squad that’s consistently competed at the right end of the table and is now top of the league. Yes he was dealt a good hand with the Vik and Gus money, but it’s a hand he played well. There are plenty of teams who’ve spent more money in this division who have much less to show for it.

Look at what we’ve spent per player and say that with a straight face. More than Boro. The closest comparison is Leicester.
That's the consensus on the board. Look back over threads on recruitment at times when we're winning and when we're not.

The reality is somewhere between; we've had good recruitment, with some more successful than other.

And we're above Middlesbrough and finished above them last season, too.

That makes no sense.

We're a club chasing promotion; you want our players, you massively over pay. Availability and value for money also dictates who gets bidded for.

Also, none of us know what conversations go on behind the scenes; what enquiries we've had.

It’s crazy to suggest we’ve not done well in the transfer market. You have to factor in that whoever he finds has to fit into our wage structure so he has to find rough diamonds. He’s done that and as a result we are top of the division. Yes, Lampard has contributed heavily but the raw materials were there.
