Be interesting to see that split by 1st & 2nd half, as to me and most of the folk around us on Saturday, he didnt have a great first half and was the first candidate to be subbed for Eccles during the HT chat.

But as it's been said he certainly wasnt "match sharp" and the tactics killed him in that respect.
Torp was subbed off in the 72nd minute, most of his stats would’ve been from the 1st half. I don’t have the precise breakdown but remember him winning a couple of tackles in the first half.

It was all tactical from Lampard and he needed to adapt because our shape in the 1st half was exploited. It literally has nothing to do with being ‘match sharp’.

This narrative is really odd, I don’t know why Torp is being targeted. Grimes was arguably more off the pace in the first half but because he’s our main man, he seems to escape scrutiny at times.

Grimes has looked jaded for a while now, but teams know how important he is to our setup so they put multiple players on him.

I do enjoy how you believe only your opinion is the fact. It's quite pompous but funny not the less.

In my opinion and many others at the ground on Saturday, Torp didnt look sharp from the start. On several occasions in the first half, he was slow to react to loose balls and his tracking of runners and recoveries looked laboured, James in particular wasn't great.

This was all addressed in the second half when Lampard clearly tweaked the midfield closing the gaps that Rudoni and Grimes were leaving.

There is no-one "targeting" Torp. Other than someone saying he's a Luxury player, which is nonsense.

I'd rather us sign a quality CM to compete with Torp/ Eccles and not need to use Allen.
got the feeling that they think that’ll be enough, agree with you though, we need somebody on the level of torp, can’t see him
going 19 games without a knock, we need grimes & torp every game really

Hopefully not, and the whispers we are hearing sounds like we are in for a CM.

That’s a subjective opinion. I highly doubt that Lampard opted to start Torp ahead of Eccles if he wasn’t match fit/sharp. Eccles was our MOTM v Stoke and scored v Birmingham so that point just doesn’t make sense and would be quite irresponsible of Lampard.

Lampard came out and said himself that it was tactical so it’s not being pompous. You can see that the shape was attacked by Leicester effectively (I shared a similar vid on the Manchester Derby), that exposed not just Torp, but Kitching, JDS and Grimes. Leicester had too much space between the fullbacks, CB/Grimes and Torp. So unless you and your mates know better than Lampard and his staff…

Around Xmas, it’s a fair observation but he had a good week off and looked good v Leicester. When the opposition beats the press and puts the ball on the wider channels, you’re asking a lot of Torp and Grimes. The latter was regularly dropping in as a 3 CB in that 1st half because our fullbacks were so high up.

The tactical tweaks of bringing the wingers in narrower, and defending in a 4-4-2 shape basically resolved those tactical issues we faced. In the first half, Leicester exploited the 4-1-1-4 (more of a 2-3-1-4 in the initial press) that we defended in. There were a few times we won the ball back in decent positions high up the pitch but by and large, we were bypassed easily.

I’m intrigued to see what we do against a side that bullied Watford off the park away from home, which is really no mean feat. It’s not the sort of opposition I think our midfield is well equipped to handle which is where a more physical ball winner would be welcome. Watford themselves enjoyed acres of space in the middle earlier in the season.

Not sure how we counteract it with the personnel we’ve got.

I read somewhere earlier that their manager has said that the starting lineup for the next 3 games will not be the same and tonights will have changes from last Saturday.

In the build up to their goal I think we got 3 blocks in, but each time the ball was recovered by them. Which I think was mostly due to us not being quite on it.
I looked at that goal to see if I could see the tactical issues being discussed here. Joel L has high starting position and got sucked further into midfield in the early part of the play. That didn't help as i think it drew Grimes deep and meant he wasn't there to pick up the ball following the MvE block. But it looks like we recovered from that but then it feels like Grimes and Torp weren't clear who was picking who up. Basically, i couldn't really reconcile the goal with the tactical chat on here! Kitching turns like an oil tanker too and feels like there have been a few goals in that channel (Birmingham third for example).

Glasner not going till the end of the season.

Not sure its such a great move if we are both Premier League teams.
Glasner made some strange comments after the Sunderland game similar to Amorim comments at Utd. I think he'll be sacked pretty soon. He's frustrated with the board and made it clear it came after Guehi signed for Man City but they were at risk of losing him in the summer for nothing.

If Frank takes us to the prem then decided to go palace then it’s his decision, he’s done his job here and took us up. It would be frustrating but at least we’d be in the big time
