Well clearly not, but we are feeling the effects of a small squad in the last few games. Why take the risk and not strengthen? We are in a great position to really seal promotion and three players is what we need to help us over the line
We are in a great position precisely because our squad is good enough. Bolstering it further is not straightforward given that we have tough decisions to make about even our starters this summer, let alone on backups that we’re yet to sign.

People talk about us needing to spend money on a Grimes backup as if Grimes ever gets injured, and as if Eccles and Allen don’t exist. Probably the same people who said that if we didn’t improve on BTA then we had no chance this season. We have several very capable and experienced options in almost every position, why not trust them to step up and finish the job like they did yesterday?

Look at who Bournemouth signed in a similar position to us in 21/22. Not players who they had much intention on using in the top flight but who would get them over the line.

That’s all people are suggesting here really.

Those wanting Hamer to return have obviously not seen the Lampard interview on the importance of training ….

In short he says you have 3 types of players …

1) Those that train with intensity and set the standards

2) Those who can train with intensity if set the right example

3) Those that can’t sustain training with intensity

The key is to remove the last group from the club quickly as they tempt the middle group to lower their standards too.

I'm not sure whether it would be good to bring Hamer back or not and I'm happy to trust FL's judgement on that. That said I just don't see Sheff U selling him back to us.

Nevertheless, while it seems as if Hamer likes a beer and the odd kebab, there is nothing to suggest he does not train to the highest standards. He is a box to box dynamic player, and you cannot be that if you don't train properly. Some players metabolisms allow them more leeway than others, and perhaps Hamer is one of those able to push it more than others. For example to the extremes compare and contrast Bryan Robson and Darren Anderton! Closer to home Sheaf was one of those players that would not play at the whiff of a niggling injury whereas I always felt Hamer would play through a minor injury. There is little doubt which player is more inspirational to team mates.

Tbh I think we will end up signing a few players - I’m just not sure we need to. Someone’s gotta worry about Mrs King’s new handbag this Christmas.

I am shocked that the former Chelsea player and manager thinks a Championship squad is too small.

Have you watched us recently? We look half the team everyone dead on their feet. There’s a reason our results have fallen off. Do you think the players will magically get more energy without being rested? We play a very high intensity game.

We’re def getting help in January but it’s tricky one,no point in spending money on players to get us over the line but won’t be good enough if we go up, expect a couple of loans and that’ll be it

and if he gets injured?

Why are you pocket watching bling. You do know if we go up we get a ridiculous amount of cash?
I don't know which game's we should have tried giving Andrew's a meaningful run out but I suspect that's already past and a bit miffed TBF, we're never going to find out at this rate.

Leo Castledine
That's a name I'm familiar with, well at least the Surname from college day's, locally connected?

Leo Castledine would be an interesting one, looks a real good player with an eye for a goal. If he us on the list then i wonder what type of deal it would be. Because so far we have heard a mixture of names linked.

Young inexperienced championship players African, Portuguese and now Castledine named. Along with Harrison, Neil and McNeil. Going be an interesting watch this window.

I think to say we’ve “fallen off” is doing a massive disservice to a squad that is still generally playing well and more often than not getting good results against the league’s strongest teams, even with a raft of injuries.

I watched us yesterday and we bossed Southampton on their own patch until that sending off.

Results dropped off? 🤔

In our last 16 games we're W12 D2 L2. Draw yesterday was 10 v 11. 11 v 11 we were the better side. We lost to Ipswich but we didn't play badly and decisions didn't go our way. Draw at Preston? Not a surprise. You could counter these with our win against Bristol City. They then beat Middlesbrough.

Of course we're starting to feel the pace. We've had injuries and illness. That's normal. It isn't just us. We're coming towards the end of a very hard run of games where we have played away to most of the top sides. Yesterday we had players that are supposed to be a liability in the side yet there wasn't a bad performance. Our players are not crap because some people on here say they are.

Of course it would be great to strengthen. But just like before the season started quality over quantity is the key. It isn't easy to bring in quality without paying over the odds. Some people seem to think it's just like Football Manager and signings are easy.

That said I would be very surprised if quality isn't on the way next month. We're the most attractive side in the division for new recruits and have the money available.

Anyone who’s watched us in our ‘rough patches’ will have seen that the results did not match the performances.

Ipswich was not a 3-0 domination, we should’ve beat PNE and Southampton we were the better team until a red card. 2 points from the last 3 away games isn’t a bad return.

The team does need freshening up but we’ve got 2 home games coming up where we need to be looking at maximum points then we’ve got Charlton away which is winnable.

So would I but it doesn’t mean it will be easy. Mid season is always difficult to bring in quality at a decent price. Best bet could be a reserve Prem player.

Yeah Stewart I remember from Wimbledon days too - Leo's on loan from Chelsea so there's the link (I presume)

I've just gone down the rabbit hole, and he's definitely a London boy, the name 📛 likely originates from the Derbyshire area, got a famous mother as well if you watched homes under the hammer in the olden days,Lucy Alexander Chelsea through and through,on loan in league one currently I believe,or Google told me.

Why you’re including half the season to try and make a point I don’t know. Our xG has been dropping for a while and we’ve failed to score more than one three games running now. The squad is clearly tired. They look tired. They’re throwing up on the pitch. They say they’re tired. The manager says it.

I think football clubs can make signings in the January window yes. If that means I’ve been playing too much FM then so be it.

They are in part tired because Frank likes a settled team and doesn’t rotate as much as some managers. Milan is never tested for KKH, the same for Thomas and Kitch for Woolf / Lati. Grimes plays almost every minute of every match when Allen comes on it is normally for Torp.

It’s not a criticism of Frank, it’s serving us brilliantly, but it’s not all because our squad is smaller or we don’t have players to utilise.

So nothing to do with illness?

Of course they are feeling the pace. All sides are. But how about considering the quality of our recent opponents also?

Our xG hasn’t been dropping, for PNE and Bristol the xG was in and around 2. Similar or higher than in games we’ve scored 3-4 goals, such as Boro, QPR, Watford and probably a few other games.

yeah, we were just so clinical earlier in the season everyone expected that to be the norm but things level off a bit over the season.

The quality drop is too far for all of those. KKH and Woolf should be OK but their showings so far haven’t shown that. We have zero depth on the wings which are the most explosive positions on the pitch and it’s meant things like shoving Rudi or KKH out there. It’s one thing backs to the wall for half an hour with a 531 but most of those can’t be trusted to hold a game that’s finely balanced or get us back into a game. All our cover is in positions we don’t really need to rest due to running less other than KKH really. It’s all DM and CB.

Weve also very clearly rushed Rudi back and are playing others beyond what they should be and that will bite us later in the season. The attitude from some on here is as long as we have 11 on the pitch then everything is fine.
