Ballard is doing alright in the Prem, you’d be surprised at how many players could make the jump up. We’ll be changing the tactical setup and that may suit certain players.

For all the praise Grimes gets, he’s a player who could potentially struggle a lot in the Prem. It’s been obvious for several seasons that he is too good for championship.

The model for Prem survival is v much spend £100m minimum and hope for the best like Sunderland and Forest have.

Ballard is but their defensive signings have been very good. Mukiele looks outstanding

Someone along the lines of the Endo/ Pascal Gross reputation is much more likely. Not that those are suggestions, just similar sort of wages

I dispute it. It’s not like we’d only signed U23s up to that point.

Grimes was a player purely bought for the present, with little conceivable sell on potential, in fact he may only decline in value. Nor was he purchased from the payout from a major sale. It was a strategic purchase but with probably no more than 2 years in mind. The Rushworth loan is very similar - a lot of money with only short term gain. Dovin and Rudoni, two major purchases that immediately preceded Robins' departure, on the other hand were brought in under the old rules.

However price inflation at the top of the Championship should also be noted

Not sure I understand this comment. Didn't Grimes come in 2025? I don't think anyone can dispute the business model has changed with the appointment of Lampard - coincidentally or not.

I remember Saddlebrains had inside info on the bid for Grimes and without naming him came on here expressing astonishment that that waw what the Club was now doing.

To be fair, we were all set to sign Browne from PNE who was a similar age for the same position.

Think this is going to be a difficult window if we keep up the pace as suddenly your doing it with an eye to a higher standard above.

Wonder if loans to give depth might be better than spending on perms.

Or could do what Sunderland did and offer loan to buys on promotion
