A lot of people do exactly that. This is part of the problem, people seem to be under the impression everyone is turning up in small boats which is far from the case.

Of course this is only possible when coming from a country where you can apply for a visa, the government are also in the process of restricting visas issued to people coming countries they view as at risk of overstaying or claiming asylum once here.

A large number of people who overstay visas don't actually apply for asylum, they just disappear into the cheap labour, cash in hand market.

I agree that people need to put themselves and their family first but again all that's happening is that people are arguing and fighting amongst themselves for scraps to do that when roughly 90% of the wealth is owned by 10% of the people. (in the US the top 0.1% have the same amount of wealth as the bottom 90%)

And I also agree people should do everything they can to change that. But when they do via protest etc people like you call for them to be put in jail for causing disruption. Basically you're cheering for the Sheriff of Nottingham instead of Robin Hood.
