Frankly the burden is on you making the claim. The main people who destroyed their ID on purpose to create new false ones were Nazi war criminals.

What do you consider the proper process for claiming asylum? Or do you just think we should take zero asylum seekers?

Read the rest of his post, he literally spells it out. TURN UP AT A PORT WITH ALL LEGAL DOCUMENTS AND PRESENT YOURSELF AND CLAIM ASYLUM. Why quote the first paragraph of 5 paragraphs for a "gotcha" when in the remaining 4 paragraphs he has clearly stated how and what asylum seekers SHOULD be doing?
The cheapest flight on Kayak right now from Paris to Heathrow is £83. Thats a damn sight cheaper than the approx £5k being paid to smugglers. Now, unless you're purposefully trying to avoid the legal routes/security/checks etc, why wouldn't you pay the £85 and do it legally???...... that is, unless you're hiding something, and in which case, we dont want you!

The truth about safe and legal routes

We are Amnesty International UK. We are ordinary people from across the world standing up for humanity and human rights.
www.amnesty.org.uk
It is impossible to come to the UK for the purpose of seeking asylum in any way permitted by the Government’s immigration rules

The rules require anyone from a country, from which any significant number of people seek asylum come to the UK, to obtain a visa for their travel.

However, those rules provide no visa for anyone to come to seek asylum. If someone applying for a visa is thought to want to seek asylum, the rules provide for a visa to be refused – or cancelled if it has been granted.

The refugee convention, which we have signed up to and which Churchill helped to create, does not allow you to penalise a refugee for how you enter the country.

Yeah, so anecdotes rather than any evidence to now justify smearing post WW2 refugees.

Really? People fleeing the aftermath of WW2 had little if any documentation. They were from the same parts of Europe that Farage and his ilk spit on now.

It’s why Churchill played a key role in the Refugee Convention which prevents discrimination based on how a refugee entered the country, and Churchill’s own government passed legislation to that effect.

Don't you fucking dare.

My grandparents were Polish refugees, one of which ended up in Africa, the other went to a forced labour camp.

You said many people destroyed their documentation before seeking refugee status. Millions in the camps clearly could not have done and you’ve given no evidence to support the claim otherwise.

That doesn't answer the question though? If you're fully above board, why pay £5k when you can get it from the same point to the same point for £85?

I don't know why, but the principles that Churchill who 'wouldn't have let in any old riff raff' worked from was that the mode of entry didn't matter.

The one in Warwick is what was the Marriot isn't it, the junction of the A46 / M40?

If I'm correct then I smell a scam. The hotel is being downgraded to a lower tier, what are the odds they've taken a government contract for just enough time to mean that the taxpayer will be on the hook for the rebrand under the guise of a post-refugee refurb?

The whole scheme should never have been allowed to get underway and needs closing down as soon as possible, it stinks.

Was just looking up something else and stumped across the fact that Britania takes on ex-cons as staff as part of another governement scheme where their wages are covered.

Obviously everyone deserves a second chance but putting people fresh out of prison into hotels full of refugees seems like it might want a risk assessment.

I think if the government won't do anything then the simplest solution is to not make this country quite the safe haven they think it is. It is getting worse and worse and will come to a head, at a guess, by the middle of next year. The hotel protests will look like child's play. Purely Conjecture of course

We could perhaps stop being tight arses and pay for a lot more staff to process all these claims. May even be cost neutral or save money once the hotel contracts are scrapped.

If only they'd thought of that

You have to physically be in the UK to claim asylum.
You can't get on a plane/enter the UK without a visa.

So what choice do they have?

It’s odd as this is a Brittania hotel and although it does take paying guests it’s predominantly a migrant hotel -well it was a couple of years ago
