Don't understand the hate for Mowbray. He is a bit old school and I can't see him doing a West Brom again. His only major error with us was thinking he could attract better players than we could afford and putting his mate in charge of recruitment. Has had a very solid managerial record and has always played attractive attacking football. Usually his second half slumps means he is not a top manager, but has done ok at every club he has been at. Middlesborough and Blackburn let him go because they did not get promoted. He jumped ship here because we were seriously underfunded and our best players left for clubs higher up the football ladder.

He failed to get one of the most exciting squads League One had ever seen promoted by making bat shit decisions like playing Armstrong on the wing and singing Stephen Hunt. he then fucked up the recruitment in the summer and resigned after 10 games because he knew he'd fucked it up. Absolute wanker.

Those blocks sell out for every game pretty much, although always loads of empty seats on the day, not sure why.

Blackburn didn't get promoted last season as they only won something like 3 out of the last 18 games. The normal Mowbray finish to the season.

Not sure it will get that high. Looks a lot less sold behind the goal than against WBA and for that game block 24 was sold out too. WBA also brought an extra 1.5K than Sunderland are and the crowd was 22,519.

To be fair the squad wasn't that good, a few outstanding young players but lacking all over the pitch

Ah ok I thought sales looked quite good in the two blocks behind the goal but I’m sure you’re right. Maybe 21-22000 then

Dowie
Coleman
Boothroyd
Thorn
Pressley
Mowbray
Slade

In that list I can see why, though Pressley in particular was royally screwed over. Ultimately shown just to be a pretty poor manager, but he put a huge amount into the job.

I don't recall WBA being that good, just an average home turn out. Midweek, week before Xmas, Cat A etc. Sales look ok for Saturday, but some way behind Cardiff and QPR which are biggest turns outs so far this season.

He lost the plot during that 15/16 season. Not helped by the Maddison sale sucking the optimism out of the fans and the fact Maddison couldn’t be arsed after his transfer. Still that team should have been at the very least in the play offs. Fleck, Maddison, Armstrong, Murphy etc.

I don’t count Dowie really cos they got rid asap. It yeah it’s a shiniest turd situation. But I enjoyed the football and thought he was a decent enough manager.

His man management was terrible, and loaning out Jim O'Brien was stupid. He was one of out most aggressive players and had a massive influence on games. I felt we were pretty soft after he went.

The next season is better not spoken about.

Selling Vincelot so that he could bring in Jordan Turnbull was (predictably) a daft decision too.

That said, I think he's a decent manager & done a really good job in some very trying circumstances at some clubs. The post Xmas slumps are crazy though.

Won't be near the QPR crowd because they brought more than Sunderland are but sales aren't too far off that game at this stage. Usually a surge on Fridays.

21,500 for me. Not bad for £33.

Shity early kick off, and being live on Sky won't help the attendance.

Remember saying at the time that J’OB flattered to deceive.
For all his running around (like a headless chicken) and launching into tackles he was mediocre at best.
But we all love a player that runs around for the cause.
That hid his lack of football intelligence and it most have been highly frustrating for any manager when he went charging off out of position only to be caught by an opposition that exploited the space where J’OB should have been.
You just couldn’t rely on him to stay in the position he was supposed to play and he cost us some very annoying goals.

Yep, it's exactly that what Mowbray didn't like. I think Mowbray has been proven right on that as O'Brien has spent most of the remainder of his career in lower leagues.

Completely disagree I'm afraid. He had one of the best visions in that midfield and was very aggressive in his play. He was also organising from the front and kicked the other players up the arse. When he didn't play we missed that a lot, and when he left it wasn't a coincidence we looked less up for it and stopped getting results. It was definitely a contributing factor.

Lots have 25th Feb as a fixed payday (me included). Heading to the ticket office later. I'll report on whether the queue is massive or not! Like others, I reckon it'll surge last minute and nudge towards 20k home fans.

Edit: didn't need to go to the ticket office but it looks busy online.

Still vividly remember that Gillingham home game where Jacob Murphy got a hat-trick in like 10 minutes.
Thought there was no stopping us at that point of the season.

Think I personally preferred Pressley to Mowbray for that era though

I'm sure Gillingham were top of the league then, and our win took us above them.

Beating top of the league 4-1 definitely had me convinced we were the real deal
