For this reason we should (when fit) play 1 up top and COH and Palmer behind. I actually felt sorry for Godden at times as Vik doesn't really want a strike partner and just wants to be direct. Very few forwards are able to play the lone forward role but it suits Vik and we should embrace it. As much as I rate Goddens finishing we have now played 3 games and scored 1 goal with 2 up front. Waghorn to play in the 10 slot with Palmer next game might be a good idea and help us control possession more.

As much as a front trio of COH, Palmer and Vik is football porn I do worry there may not be enough goals there. We will need a clean sheet most weeks.

No chance anyone would have predicted we'd not concede a goal with this back three. Madness. Kudos to Robins and the coaching staff.

Agreed, after the first half hour at Luton no way would anyone have predicted 3 and a half clean sheets. Robins knows what he's doing while waiting for Cal to be back fit

The three games they lost were against 1st and 5th away, and 4th at home.

2 of those 3 games were away at Burnley and Norwich, not sure that's a great barometer.

And yet we should have beaten Bristol. Good point, frustrating it wasn't 3.

I think it is the lack of tackling with Sheaf which seems odd. This time last year he was winning the ball so much more

He has made more tackles and won more duels (per 90) this season than he did last.

How was Doyle second half for you

As I said Doyle was slow and got beat several times too easily which could have resulted in goals. he's brave and does a lot right but positionally is suspect at times. We were lucky not to concede when they just left him for dead at the by line and crossed into the box. I like him but tbf he is on the wrong side of the defense. Rose would be the better option all day. And if you did not see any of that then get your eye sight tested.

When everyone but you thinks the opposite, you may want to consider whether it’s you that needs an eye test.

He got done a couple of times by Semenyo, but he's a very decent player.
I think he would have had a lot more success against Rose.

I meant the last couple of games, and it feels he isn't winning the ball so much.

Ok have it your way, but look back at the game and see how all too easily he was beaten and left for dead. Rose is quicker and you do Rose a disservice. Rose also is a threat from corners in the oppo's box. I'm not saying Rose is great by any means but beleive he is the better option than what I'm seeing from Doyle playing on the right side. It's a game of opinions and time will tell.

Once again do you actually watch the games as what you post about them is at best in a long distance relationship with what happened in the actual game.

Doyle has been superb since he's been in the team.Dabo for me gets too close to the 3 centre backs and leaves his man in to much space to attack or cross he needs to get alot tighter.

I feel slightly more confident when Doyle is defending than Panzo, but we've not conceded for 3 games now so I don't see MR changing anything for the moment. That includes Moore for Wilson, Kane for Dabo or Rose for Doyle/ Panzo. The only change I can see for the Burnley game might be further forward where I can see him bringing in Waghorn for Godden as he fits nicely into a deeper role we might need for that match.

Rose may be quicker, but Doyle seems to be the more composed and less likely to get into a position where he needs pace to get out of it. It's not ideal having a left footer on the right, but it's not like Rose was some colossus that no-one was beating.

As it stands since Rose went off and we've had a back three of Panzo, Fadz and Doyle we've not conceded in 3 and a half games. So it can't be that bad.

Rose has been poor and flattered to deceive for a long time. He had a massive opportunity when Hyam left and before his injury he really didn’t take it.

Still hope for him though.

Doyle is incredibly reassured and astute for a (just turned) 19 year old in his first season in the Championship.

Yea really not sure how you got to that from a suggestion of bringing someone with pace on against a high line playing a midfielder at CB.

I swear it must be almost every match thread he's on the bench that someone suggests it. It's like teams actually find it impossible to defend against a striker with pace ("Play him in behind! They're playing a high line!! Tired legs!!!"). But we just mysteriously refuse to try it every time. Wonder why.

Semenyo stood out as their best player by some distance. He would even have caused Lord Hyam some minor inconvenience

He means we won’t score that many so will need to be tight defensively to win games
