He was superseded by the signing of Markelo. Honestly I think Lampard probably made it clear he needed multiple wingers in Jan and Yang was obviously available, pretty cheap and already playing in the league, so we just went for it to get a body in the door.

The searching is massively inconsistent. They would need to put on significantly more staff to search everyone, otherwise the ground would be half empty at kick off.
