    Kitching and Thomas

Oh no, not stats. Let me debunk a couple. Dasilva will very, very rarely get dribbled past. That’s because it’s so easy to drop a ball in behind him. Van Ewijk has made 22 interceptions. Where? After giving it away? I’m not saying they are bad players or we should change what is working well for...

    Kitching and Thomas

Perfectly serious. I notice you’ve taken the debate about our full backs and gone into a full defence analysis. My point is simple. We consciously play with full backs who are better going forward than back. That’s fine. It’s working. But our full backs are poor defensively.

    Kitching and Thomas

Well it annoys me when unchallenged crosses pour into our box but that’s life. That’s the way we play. But surely there can’t be a serious case made that either Van Ewijk or Dasilva can defend??

    Our fastest ever player....

    Dougie McGuire?

Grimes - our most important signing ever ?

Depends on the context. Clarke’s partnership with Wilson kept us out of a really bad situation in a year when we started off with minus points (only didn’t put Wilson in as we didn’t sign him). McNulty and Kelly the same. If those signings didn’t come off we would have been serious trouble...

Grimes - our most important signing ever ?

Interesting suggestions. In my time watching I’d pick out: Regis, Gallacher, Robson, Dublin, Ogrizovic, Leon Clarke, McNulty, Kelly

I’m not saying they are shit. But crosses pour into our box unopposed. It will catch us out (Preston). I’d just like us to tighten up a bit there

    For any remaining non-believers

Just got to keep winning. Yesterday’s win was huge. We don’t need huge winning streaks - we’ve done that. Just got to keep accumulating

Can’t believe some continue to question Wright. Just look at his numbers. He’s quality.

Rushworth basically the difference. Maybe 8 for Wright and Thomas. 7 elsewhere

Big win. Rushworth superb. Really concerned that our full backs are just not anywhere near good enough defensively. But it’s a win

    Transfer Rumour Charlie Hughes

Exactly this. It’s a conscious decision regards style of play. Which going back to the original post means it would make no difference if we signed Hughes.

    42 years ago today

Fantastic day and game. We were well up the table at that point but just stopped winning. Can’t remember if there were injuries in particular that caused it or it all just caught up with the squad we’d assembled from very little

    Transfer Rumour Christian Benteke

Really can’t see why we are after a CF (if it’s true). Would Benteke play ahead of Wright, Simms, BTA? If not why sign him

    No. Best days are gone

    Transfer Rumour Charlie Hughes

It’s really very basic. You either commit to having a solid defence by playing four players there who prioritise defending. Or you go for our model of playing two defenders at CH and two full backs who are better going forward than defending. There are merits in both. But if you go for the...
