    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

It was reported by NHS England yesterday that the first death in the UK was actually at some point before the reported first death on 5th March, and was in Liverpool not in Berkshire as reported in the press. There has been some criticism over the accuracy of other countries' numbers, given...

No, no, that isn't how these things work at all. Agreeing to take part in something like that would need ministerial and treasury approval. I think you might have resigned from your permanent position by virtue of taking this fixed term role, you might want to check some of your paperwork though. Your employer should have offered it to you on secondment / temporary promotion (i assume it was a promotion). Was there a break in...

The whole charade is purely designed to make the government balance sheet look better, it serves no other useful purpose. Erm yeah we'll come up with a tariff regime that isn't enough to fund the cost of your services, we'll loan you the balance with interest. Oh, and here's a PFI hospital...

Pay cuts at Premier League clubs

What it might be showing is that despite the paper richness, due to the hugely inflated wage bills the clubs struggle with cash flow. I assume FFP doesn't stop an owner putting money in for this circumstance?

Clearing past debts isn't an issue, they're all basically sat on the government books anyway through the SLC. Most of them will never be repaid so why not just write them off now?

Yeah, all sorts of reasons. I'm not university educated but would have absolutely no problem at all with higher education being fully funded, tuition fees are a disgrace.

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

What is unfair about funding tuition fees to the wider (non-university attending) population? Think about it in the context of what's going on now.

All of these things already exist. What's happening now is that things are just being cancelled and people are remaining in their homes, it is nothing to do with middle management being at home
