    Coventry City Podcast

I was pretty wound up by this latest edition because I felt like it was needlessly negative. You wouldn't have thought we were top of the league with zero goals conceded and one shot on target against us. In both games, whilst we haven't been flashy by any stretch of the imagination, we've...

Match Thread Coventry City - Newport County Match Thread - Saturday 19th Aug

Unchanged from Grimsby unless McNulty is ruled out. Fancy another 2-0, Jones and another, probably McNulty. Can see Nouble getting a goal against us too because Sod's law.

    Team togetherness

I'd say the truth lies somewhere down the middle. We probably have one of the biggest budgets in the league. Andreu was apparently wanted by Oxford, so it's a good sign when you're beating teams in the league above for players. I imagine that is the case for a few of our signings too. Put it...

    Team togetherness

Haha I don't think anyone is that naive! I'm just happy the manager has received some backing and that we've put together a squad which should be capable of challenging for promotion.

Not much point in me speculating because only Robins knows the real answer to that. He wanted 12 signings, and he got 12 signings. The consensus amongst us fans is that the quality of signings has been good, so I'm happy.

To add on to your point, it's no coincidence we've signed players who have experienced promotion from League 2. In addition, we've mostly signed experienced pros and that experience will help the team grind out results and during bouts of loss in-form, injuries/suspensions.

    Team togetherness

What point are you trying to make? We probably are paying less wages, but we've gone down a division? The budget is hardly going to increase. The reality is, we've signed a lot of players from divisions above us; Andreu, McDonald, Vincenti, Grimmer, Nazon and McNulty. Doyle and O'Brien (albeit...

    Team togetherness

We lost Thomas and Bigi, all the rest were released by Robins. Personally, I think the team is an improvement on last year, with the exception of Thomas. Robins set a target of getting 12 players in, and unsurprisingly, we've signed 12 players. There must've been some provisional budget in...

    Team togetherness

For sure, clearly Robins has had a plan because we were signing players in May. When Robins came back, he spoke somewhat positively about the owners. Also, because we were more or less relegated from L1 by his appointment, I imagine the budget for next year would've been discussed and assurances...

    Anthony Andreu

I have no idea why some sections of fans are so quick to dismiss him. Seems to have split opinion, but so far has got an assist v Notts County and linked up well with Jones again v Grimsby. He's done well thus far.

    Anthony Andreu

I doubt that. He's a '10', he'll slot in behind McNulty, whom he's played alongside in his time in Scotland. Hoping for 20-25 goals between them.

Never thought I'd ever say this but... I think we'd miss Doyle if he's ever out injured/suspended. However, since he's left us permanently, he's played more than 40 league games a season. So I think we'll be fine. But Sod's law would have it that this season he finally gives way...

    Next 6 Fixtures

I'm not overly concerned about the lack of a target man. After all, in my experiences as a Cov fan, it hasn't worked when we've utilised them. That said, I've never experienced League 2 football. I've just had a brief scan at the squads of the three automatically promoted teams and only Plymouth...

    Team togetherness

There's an element of that. However, it's not just all down to Robins. Bringing in 12 players is a lot, so I doubt Robins has waved a magic wand and made it fit in the budget. The budget must be one of the largest in the league as we're able to sign the players we have. We even had some good...
  15. Mucca Mad Boys

    Anthony Andreu

I don't think that makes much sense. I can see Andreu slotting in on the wings if we get a few injuries, but he's a '10' so he'll be mainly playing behind the striker. So I think Beavon will make way because Andreu will be looking to score 10-15 goals whereas Beavon will probably get 10, give or...

Nice of you to rain on our parade haha! I certainly think he's been given the resources to have a successful season this year. It's now on him to deliver this success. Based on our time in L1, we had the resources to build competitive teams that were good enough for playoffs. So I only think...

    Extended highlights: Grimsby

100% agreed. We certainly looked dangerous and thought Jones stood out in particular. I think he's going to have a great season. Vincenti is going to be an unsung hero this season. Compared to The Duke or Jones, he's not as easy on the eye and he's not exciting. But, he's a threat in his own...

Gutted I couldn't go to the game, but I found extended highlights on the Grimsby website. I really like the look of the team. Jones had another good game! Freeview: Extended Coventry Highlights

I don't think he will leave. I doubt that Championship clubs will be sufficiently interested in him and can't see him leaving us for League 1. He's had a full season with the club, brought in 12 players and I think we have a serious shot at automatic promotion this year. He's a good fit for the...
