Are we about to lose the heartbeat of the club ?

I disagree with the notion that COH is the ‘heart and soul’ of the team. He’s done really well to come back and improve his output following a nasty ACL injury. He’s also clearly a well liked member of the squad and it’s nice to see he’s built a bond with players like MVE. That all said, I...

    Transfer targets

Thankfully, you’re not in charge of recruitment. He strikes me as a player of yesteryear. That and his wages will probably be above what we’d want to pay.

Hamer would fit perfectly in this new system. I generally believe had we kept him, we’d be a top 4 team. In this new system, our CMs have freedom to push forward, they have wide players and overlapping full backs to aim for as well gives us a lot of options in possession. I do think that...

    Bobby Thomas & Ellis Simms

Personally, I think it’s a systems issue rather than a personnel one at this moment in time. First half against Middlesbrough, we were playing too safe in possession at times and not advancing the ball. Lo and behold, Simms isn’t involved in the game. Second half, we play balls in behind the...

Interview with Doug King coming up on Talk Sport this morning

Why’s that a good thing? Weren’t we (as a fan base) moaning that SISU barely communicated via these kinds of channels way back when?

    Where will we finish ?

For that to happen, Sunderland would need to finish above us which isn’t happening.

    Where will we finish ?

Top 6 if we recruit well this window and stay lucky with injuries.

Rooney is fired up for Friday night

To think people were jealous of Birmingham’s recruitment in the preseason hahaha

    The change of shape

Without getting carried away, looking at the competition around us, we really ought to finish in the playoffs by end of match day 46. That midfield area is crucial for us, good recruitment to get in some wingers and a CM or two and we should be well set.

    Empty seats

Similar situation here in Block 34. Personally, I think they ought to reduce the size of the family zone next season.

    Swansea Ratings

It is clear we've had to rotate players this Xmas period and we've done well but Allen doesn't look as assured at CM rather than at AM. Now we playing 4-2-3-1 that area of the pitch is still the number 1 priority.

He scored a gift of a goal and that was it really. I don't get some of the clamour to sign him on the match thread.

    The Forwards Conundrum

How many chances has he missed? If a striker isn't scoring but missing plenty of chances, that's one thing. If they have not many goals and not many chances, isn't that indicative the team around them could be doing better? Simms contributed nothing yet scored with his only touch of the match...

    Simms

Likewise, Godden didn't do anything and Wright looks ineffective when he plays centrally too. So it seems the common denominator is the position not the players. If Simms only had 1 touch and that was a goal, probably suggests we need to get the ball to our strikers more often. If we look at...

    Simms

That's pretty harsh, he does make runs. The one 'pass' directed to him today was a punt for him to chase down. Generally, we want to get the ball to his feet and find him the box and don't really do either. These kind of issues stem from the midfield, imo - and with reinforcements in that area I...

I've read the reports from Sky and the Telegraph and note the description of the first goal:

That stems from Allen, Sheaf and even Eccles passing range. The passes out wide are safer bets for them - it's a good job we have MVE, Saka, Wright and Bidwell in those wide spaces.

    Simms

I feel sorry for Godden and Simms - we just don't create any chances for them. We find a lot of joy down the flanks which is good, but we're finding joy down the middle.

If you've watched the replay, you would've seen Sheaf was never in control of the ball so a pass to either of those CBs would be risky. Allen controlled the ball, took another touch before losing control before his third touch in the box. I like Allen, but he's undoubtedly the guilty party here...

It's his fault - 100%. He clearly loses control of the ball and Sheaf's interception was fine.
