    Summer transfer window 2024

Agreed, at this point in the window, I can’t see us bringing in more than 2 players. One of those players will almost definitely be a CM and next would be defence, CB, RB or LB. In terms of numbers, on paper we’re ‘well stocked’ as we have 4 CBs, 2 LBs and only one RB on the books. In an ideal...

    Summer transfer window 2024

What is acceptable level in this context? We failed to make the playoffs last season so I’m struggling to see how we improve on last season’s defensive record without adding any new players. We kept 2 league clean sheets in 2024 so was a soft underbelly and will continue to be so on the goals...

    Bristol Away Tickets

If we televising most EFL games, just remove the 15:00 blackout, particularly for teams that will have capacity home support. We’ve got PNE and Pompey at 12:30 too which is just a joke. Sheffield U and Hull need to get to Cov for 12:30 too - it’s a piss take.

Match Thread Were the Oxford goals Lucky or calamitous Defending ?

I get that because all the CBs we have on the books have a lot of positives. However, they’re all quite inexperienced and given the naivety of our defending at times, it’s calling out for an experienced head. They’re not always available at the right price so if we can’t get anyone, so be it. I...

    How many season tickets

I’m pretty sure that Man U have a strict 3 strike rule for missing games as a STH and the ticket wasn’t sold back to the club for their ticket exchange. In fairness to Man U, they have that much support every seat should be full for every game (more or less). If the demand is there, it would...

Match Thread Were the Oxford goals Lucky or calamitous Defending ?

Why? None of our defenders would be considered among the leagues best with the exception of MVE. It makes complete sense to sign an experienced CB to guide our young and mistake prone defence. Perhaps it’s a coincidence only, but our defence struggled to keep clean sheets after McFadz left the...

    Luis Binks tonight

He’s not. Binks, Lati and Simms were all guilty of ball watching. Watch the replay and you can see Lati and Simms not make their mind up between them. To me, it looks like Lati was expecting Simms to leave it (presumably so he can mop it up) because when Simms does touch it, Lati appears to have...

    Summer transfer window 2024

My gut feeling is that we’ll sign a Prem loanee for CB this window. Looking at our defensive performances so far and following 2024 as a whole, we don’t look capable of keeping a clean sheet. Yes, it’s true our defensive record was 6th best in the league (or thereabouts) but we had an incredible...

    Summer transfer window 2024

A lot of paranoia here Gibb. EMC was brought in to be a marquee signing but it’s competitive in those wide areas and he’ll need to fight his way in. It’s as simple as that and no need to overthink it. We signed him in January on the expectation he’d be our player in Jan. There was no suggestion...

    Oxford player ratings

A CM and a CB would really make us a Top 4 (possibly even automatic) contender. Based on the goals (+ chances) we’ve conceded so far, our defence could be our soft underbelly. As discussed on other threads, the midfield without Sheaf looks open too. We seem to be winning less ball higher up the...

    New players new songs?

Exactly, it’s a unique chant to our ‘culture’ and city rather than the copy and paste chants we nick from other clubs for other players.

    Luis Binks tonight

Lati and Simms got in each other’s way in the box and it kind of hits Simms. My expectation would be that a CB takes ownership in that situation. To be frank, had it been Thomas there I reckon he would’ve pelted it out. Lati on Friday was far more assured on the ball than Thomas v Stoke so it’s...

The points program is great, these kind of cup games I’d have skipped in the past. These games become must-not-miss games if you’re building up your points.

    New players new songs?

Why don’t we just sing the chorus to ‘A Message to You Rudy?’ It’s unique and as a classic Cov tune. Similar to how we sign ‘Twist and Shout’.

Which is a given because MVE is a player who carries the ball. Bidwell will be further forward because we target him with diagonals and we generally want him hitting first time crosses.

    Haji Wright

His main competition is Sakamoto, Wright and Simms are nailed on starters. EMC had 2 good opportunities to open his account with us last night and he lacked that killer instinct last night. It’ll come though, he’s still adjusting.

Agreed on that, Rudoni had free license in attack and to be fair to him, was responsible for filling in defensively when Torp moved forward too. I don’t want to get too carried away, but the early signs to me is that he’s an upgrade on COH.

Match Thread Coventry City - Oxford Utd - Match Thread - Friday 16th Aug 8pm KO

We weren’t dreadful, in the second half we were the better team that couldn’t fashion a clear cut chance. Missing Sheaf and Wright was a big factor imo.

Match Thread Coventry City - Oxford Utd - Match Thread - Friday 16th Aug 8pm KO

Binks failed to win the header in the first place for their first and both CBs were ball watching after Simms’ poor touch. That was a collective failure. Including Torp’s poor header - entirely preventable. Similarly, for their second, we got caught out following Torp’s misplaced pass and we...
