Fans back in stadia by Xmas?

Rotherham, Sunderland and Portsmouth as well. Anyone else think this is still just teams wanting a breather?

It just sounds so far-fetched that this is a cover-up to improve the government's image. Is this really what people are taking away from all this? Sounds to me like the equivalent of telling the world that you've shat yourself to cover up that you farted earlier.

Yes, clearly the government has completely botched the tiers from the start. But I don't think that necessarily means they're now "deliberately overplaying" the new variant. Nor do I think it's wise to undermine the new advice, just because you heard it from your friend's wife.

“The tier decisions are not ones that are for me, but I will say that the evidence in this virus is it spreads easily, it's more transmissible, we absolutely need to make sure we've got the right level of restrictions in place. I think it is likely that this will grow in numbers of the variant...

So if it's just the government now "deliberately overplaying" the new strain, why did Vallance say restrictions would need to be expanded on Monday? I'm sure you've spent a decent amount of energy this year arguing with people claiming there's something untoward going on, the science doesn't...

Seems a bit far-fetched. Personally my money's still on the the catastrophic explosion in national cases.

And here we go! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55400680 Millwall's next two games are off. I'm sure their fans are furious, they hate anything to do with politics.

With the fixtures as congested as they are, it would only take a couple of teams to suffer outbreaks to completely screw the calendar. Who knows about European games. Given that UEFA aren't going to move Euro 2020 again on England's account, it could be a nervy few months for the FA.

Hungary is part of the Schengen area, so is signed up to a totally different set of border rules. Not really double standards at all.

Glad to see you agree it’s the government’s bizarre handling of it all, and not some kind of cockney conspiracy, that’s to blame for this all going to shit. You got there in the end.

The new strain doesn’t exist mate. If they’d just cancelled Joshua vs Pulev and closed Harrod’s then we’d all be back to normal by now.

So the new strain is made up? Some government conspiracy theory to justify some kind of secret attempt to keep London pubs open at all costs? Yep, definitely DEFINITELY not bitter. Indoor events, crowded Christmas shopping, people ignoring the rules....it’s all happening in every Tier 2 city...

I must have imagined London going up to Tier 3 last week then! This idea that London has been “living the dream” recently is the usual Middle England cliche bullshit propagated by people who haven’t stepped foot here in months if not years. (If what happened yesterday is the government’s idea...
