No - I pointed out something similar in my first post in this thread. It’s tinfoil to say “they wanted people to respond” a certain way. There’s a genuine discussion to be had about the first point, but if you honestly believe the second point, then it isn’t going to go very far.

Who in the media is deliberately whipping it up, and to what end? If you’d rather the media just stayed quiet and didn’t risk causing problems then you can just come out and say it - plenty of Russians and Chinese people would agree with you.

What’s the alternative? Media coverage undeniably helps panic buying to spread - you can certainly make an argument for therefore banning the media from covering any story that might incite a panic. But that sends us down a road of authoritarian/state-controlled media, and as you suggest...
