Disagree, Stu. I thought we played well against Italy and very poorly last night. So many passes were going astray, we were riddled with errors and the final ball into the box was abysmal. Hodgson got a number of things wrong and the buck stops with him. He did blood a couple of youngsters but...

I do think Hodgson is partly to blame. Sterling earmarked to look after Pirlo? Bet if you watch a replay of that Italian game now you probably wouldn't find Sterling within 10 yards of Pirlo all game. Wrong tactics. That is down to the manager unfortunately.

I'm confused. Are you talking about Paul Teflon or Joe Elliott?

I see that one report on the game last night described England as 'utterly passive.' Summed up perfectly for me and that same phrase could have been used many, many times over the years of these tournaments, World Cup and Euro's alike.

Stuart Linnell has never been a professional footballer or held any position of authority in the game so his opinion is absolutely of no interest to me. Same for Eakin and Foster etc. I don't take too much heed at all as to what most commentators say, but I do listen to ex players with in...

    England v Uruguay

I think too often It has been all about Rooney as our star player and everything has revolved around him, but he is just one player in a team of 11. I liked the way that at one point he went to take the ball off Barclay and Barclay was having none of it. I think there is a place for Rooney in...

Pointless going backwards anyway. I just witnessed yet another cautious performance from an England team and this has been going on for an age and a day.

And I also have to add, I'm not wrong just because you say I'm wrong, limoncello. Fine if you think Sven was a good manager for us. I thought he was awful. And that is based on the supposed golden age of players he had at his disposal (Beckham, Ferdinand, Lampard, Gerrard, Owen etc.)

I'm not wrong though. Find the tapes of the games, watch the matches and see how deep we defended trying to hang on for a result with the quality of the players we had.

That's a good call actually. Either him or Bobby Gould.

Wenger would have us playing good attacking football and Jose is clearly a winner. I know Sven's record was excellent before England but he was too soft with the players. Jose would take no shit from anyone and knock them into shape.

Have to disagree on Sven. Thought he was dreadful, especially considering the players he had at his disposal. I remember wacthing England games at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups screaming at the TV for us to push forwards and stop defending so deeply and I clearly recall the commentators and...

I would be happy with Wenger. Or Jose. We have had a losing mentality for far too long now going into games. Ultra cautious and usually playing with very little freedom.

Look at the squad Sven had in 2006!! 2 Gary Neville 18 February 1975 (aged 31) 79 Manchester United 3 DF Ashley Cole 20 December 1980 (aged 25) 46 Arsenal 4 MF Steven Gerrard 30 May 1980 (aged 26) 42 Liverpool 5 DF Rio Ferdinand 7 November 1978 (aged 27) 47 Manchester United...

Ohh, Sven made my blood boil. Then we did have some very good players and he was far too cautious and as games wore on in tournaments we defended deeper and deeper and deeper and just tried to hang on. The bloke drove me nuts.
  16. Otis

    roy hodgson

Disagree. Think he is part of the problem.
  17. Otis

Too cautious. Just like Capello (Sven, McLarene etc.) and so many before him. Something about England that just cries out let's be cautious and defend really deeply. It's almost like we set out not to lose half the time.
  18. Otis

    England v Uruguay

Thing that really irks me the most is that we know our defence is poor. We know we are susceptible and it is our weakest side to our game. That's why we should have just gone for it tonight. I think we were too cautious, too deep and really didn't get at them as we should have.

    England v Uruguay

Err, let me guess. Played out for a gentle 1-1 draw.

I wish they would stop talking about it not being all over yet too. We are OUT!! Forget it. Too many permutations. Play the kids on Tuesday. Forget any hope of getting through. Worry is though that Roy will still play the old stagers on the back over a 1% chance of getting through. I do wish...
