I agree. I already think far too much energy has been wasted pretending that where Wasps play is important, beyond what it means for who owns the CBS. The idea that CCFC fans would veto a potential takeover bid (especially if it was the only credible investor linked with us in a decade) just...

I think the point is that (despite the lyrics) they’re not clearly referring to any particular branch of the IRA at all.

Can’t pretend the whole episode bothers me that much, but it’s interesting in itself that people of that generation would have no issue singing that song, or filming/uploading themselves doing it. Clearly means something very different to them than those who might have sung similar 30 years ago.

So I assume if Wasps are forced out of Coventry, you’ll be out protesting on behalf of those Wasps fans in the Cov area who will be seeing their cultural ties of place and time be loosened? You may not agree with them but they surely exist.

Rugby fans care, sure. So do fans of curling, indie music festivals, French arthouse cinema (but enough about me). If your argument is that all of them are as culturally relevant/sacred as football because they matter to someone, are you saying that it’s always wrong for any business with fans...

As I said earlier, you can dislike Wasps because of how they helped to bail out the council and stop us getting control of our own stadium. I certainly wouldn’t shed any tears if they went under for that reason. What I don’t get is the pearl clutching about the horror - the horror! - of a rugby...

I wouldn’t give a shit what a rugby fan says - it’s a culturally irrelevant sport frequented mostly by day trippers and casual fans. You can pretend that it’s just as important as the Football League if you like and insist they play by the same standards but even the clubs themselves wouldn’t...
