    Qatar World Cup 2022

Yeah it’s never really had anything to do with the actual amount of stoppages has it - it’s just this generally agreed unwritten rule of thumb (about 3 minutes as standard, plus or minus a minute or two depending on how busy the second half has been). I’m glad they’re trying to address it.

    Stop the clock

As someone who’s usually rushing for the train after games, these are dangerous and uncertain times.

    Qatar World Cup 2022

I don’t know, I think the game somehow managed to struggle on without VAR. I’d happily take a Hand of God moment over the drawn out tedium and endless do-overs that VAR imposes on us every week.

What do you mean? I still believe that ordinary refs have eyes and brains.

    Qatar World Cup 2022

Is there anyone who still thinks VAR makes the game better? Just one person? No judgment if that’s genuinely what you believe, I just don’t know if it even has any fans left.

Mike Ashley Takeover …Ready and Waiting

So when the stadium and the club were both on the block earlier this month, how many investors were queued up for this very modest and very lucrative opportunity?

Mike Ashley Takeover …Ready and Waiting

I didn’t put a value judgment on where Newcastle ranked financially. I certainly don’t think Newcastle have ever had great owners (and Shepherd was clearly insane). But when it comes to billionaires like Ashley owning football clubs I’m yet to see why I should give a shit about how much money...

Mike Ashley Takeover …Ready and Waiting

As I said, that’s the argument for the other side. I would question whether big debts are necessarily fatal to a Premier League club’s ambition, especially if they have a billionaire owner. But if you put that much importance on having sound finances off the pitch above all else then I can see...

Mike Ashley Takeover …Ready and Waiting

In revenue and wage bill terms they were one of the biggest clubs in Europe (and regularly played in Europe too). You could argue they would have just gone the same way as Leeds if he’d acted otherwise, but the argument against Ashley is that he took over a team with a realistic shot at...

Mike Ashley Takeover …Ready and Waiting

Well for years you’ve said that no-one would ever consider us as a good investment, but now all of a sudden the Championship is an obvious (and much more competitive now, apparently?) league for any old billionaire to invest in and get a 10 fold return. And yet even with the stadium in play...

Mike Ashley Takeover …Ready and Waiting

Of course, but I was led to believe that Ashley’s a billionaire. Are you suggesting that Ashley is desperate to achieve success at a football club - any football club! - by way of investing in the team and taking them to the next level but simply bit off more than he could chew at Newcastle?
