I get that they’ve tried to add some stakes to the tournament but I just can’t bring myself to care. Can you imagine the country coming to a standstill for the Nations League final? Open top bus parades if we won?

I don’t have any Spanish or Portuguese friends so I don’t know if it was a night for the history books there Personally I would rank an England Nations League title somewhere below a decent goalless draw for CCFC.

Fans/bookies will consider pretty much any former player who’s still in management - there’s no other reason why he should be in the running, it’s just nostalgic narrative-building.

So what you’re saying is that fewer than half of teams finishing in the playoff spots typically do so after surmounting the kind of points gap that we need to bridge? We could also, of course, end up as one of the teams that gets supplanted by a team below us going on a great run too.

If every team routinely made up 8 point gaps on each other from this stage of the season then the final league table won’t look remotely like it does now. Whereas I’m willing to bet there will be some pretty strong correlation to the current state of play.

I think the risk of hiring Carsley is much more tilted in our direction. I doubt he will get a much better career option than us once he leaves the U21s job. Think a media role is more likely tbh.

Fun fact, there have been 10 permanent England U21 managers, and four of them have managed us.

Remember thinking at the time that the interview was unusually detailed and candid, especially in the middle of a season. Wouldn’t be surprised if Viveash got permission to speak to Turner and then went way beyond what the club agreed or assumed he would discuss.

I think King could just say (as he also did on Monday) that it was the structure that was the main problem, and make sure Carr cleaned house accordingly. If this drags on long enough for Carr to handily win us four or five more games, then the arguments against him will become easier to ignore.

I think Carr will stick around - Andrews is clearly a big fan. The other coaches are presumably not long for this realm. While the odds of Carr getting the job are probably slim, I don’t think they’re as close to zero as people think.

The England U21 job is a bit of a managerial graveyard tbh. Very few people go on to achieve much at all after leaving the role.

I think it’s the only reason he’s even being suggested for the job tbh - he has none of the experience we’re supposedly looking for
