    Why Collins?

Like Sunderland, I would have him as a second choice keeper at the very least - in fact he’d be my current first choice. But our coaches (and fans!) collectively decided he wasn’t even worth a place on our bench. Oh well.

Match Thread Portsmouth FC - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 21st Dec

It’s just a funny way to describe what the Head Coach is doing!

    Why Collins?

He made mistakes in a few games but was written off entirely after a very encouraging first season with us. He now plays for a team in the top six. Oh well.

    Yes - a 9th place finish.

Relax, I think Robins was great, because of all the league stuff. The cup stuff was just window dressing.

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

I didn’t say he was judged solely by that - I certainly don’t, anyway. But it’s frequently cited on here as an example of this team supposedly being better than it currently looks. Personally I don’t think it counts for much at all. Jay Dasilva and Luis Binks nearly dragged us into an FA Cup...

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

It was a once-in-a-generation thing that required an historic amount of luck to happen. It’s not a repeatable feat and we shouldn’t let it cloud our judgment of the people involved. That goes for Binks, Dasilva and Tavares etc as much as it does for Robins.

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

I don’t really care that much about the FA Cup in all honesty. Fun last season but what have we got to show for it today? Fuck all.

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

England’s easy routes in knockout tournaments came because we won a lot of games. Coventry’s easy route came because someone picked out Maidstone and Oxford out of a bowl instead of Man City and Arsenal.

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

It was a purple patch in a very underwhelming season - we finished nine points off the playoffs, we were miles off it. Who cares what Doug King thinks of the deck? I’ve had sausages in the freezer for longer than he’s been watching football.

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

Oxford (H) Sheffield Wednesday (H) Maidstone (H) Wolves (A) I’m sorry - I enjoyed the days out as much as anyone, but winning those four games does not tell you anything meaningful about the quality of the side we have today.

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

People need to let the FA Cup semifinal go. It was a fun distraction which ultimately served to make a lot of very average players look good off the back of one good - and somewhat unlikely - win at Wolves.

    How is Aled Williams employed?

What specifically about the GK coaching are we getting wrong?

    Ratings

He spent half the game diving on the floor and the other half offside. He has some talent but I have no idea what he’s doing leading the line at the moment, he’s nowhere near ready.

What did you think about the game against Portsmouth? I don’t think we played very well.

    Brad Collins

Wilson does not stand a chance with that defence. Nor does Dovin. We have signed almost as many keepers as we have centre-halves on permanent deals since we got promoted, it’s ridiculous.

    Brad Collins

He was dreadful today, but if anyone thinks changing keepers alone is going to fix our defensive issues then I don’t know what to tell you. Worst back four I’ve seen for us in years.
