So much for country over party
I’m sure there are some clubs where players who make high-profile mistakes are turned into pantomime villains but I’m glad we don’t appear to be one of them.
If you play Wilson, you basically commit to playing him for the rest of the season (and all that entails for tactics etc). Maybe it will end up having to be that way anyway, but personally I’d give Collins one more game to see if he can recover.
Bessent, like Mnuchin before him, is largely irrelevant. He’s there to reassure his contacts on Wall Street that there are adults in the room and try to rationalise the irrational in the occasional TV interview. He clearly has next to no influence on Trump’s decision making.
Lot of armchair psychology in this thread, but thought it was very telling that Edwards made a point of mentioning that Collins is a "strong character" in his post-match interview.
Think I said it earlier in this same thread, but I think people are massively under-estimating how much a stop clock system would change tactics and the way teams manage out games.
Bizarre that the 2022 WC seemed to have found a solution for it but it just got quietly abandoned.
People seriously suggesting Bell go in goal shows the problem with dropping Collins. Yes, you can banish your second-choice keeper and move on to your third or fourth-choice instead, but it likely means the rest of the team has to change shape and tactics just to accommodate.
The only reason...
He’s had some dreadful runs recently (today included) but he hasn’t played badly in every game he’s played for us
Fair enough if you want a ‘next man up’ approach to the GK position every time one of them makes a mistake, but where does that end up?
