    Fisher "more players are needed"

At £25,000 per year developed, we're unlikely to see a return on the £1m if players are nabbed from us before they turn 16. But if we are going to be fast tracking youngsters into the first team once they turn 17 or 18, as we have been doing, then we may see this starting to turn a profit...

    Fisher "more players are needed"

I think there was something of substance hidden away in that article and I think it is good news for the club. It's this line: “This option also sees the club invest in the Academy with the application for Category 2 status – which, we are delighted to say, was successfully achieved last week."...

    Robin Van Persie Leaving Arsenal

I agree they can probably spend a little more but I don't think Wenger and the board see it that way. It's easy to say, we'll pay RVP extra 'cos he's worth it and we'll get a couple of other stars in too. But once you break the pay structure all the players agents will start saying: you broke it...

Anyone starting to feel slighty optomistic?

What a strange day. No one has called for Thorn to go, Sisu have not been called Shitsu and some of the players who were deemed "rubbish" last week might "do a job for us in league 1" now. Fisher and Waggot should space future signings out a little from now on if they want to keep the positive...

    Robin Van Persie Leaving Arsenal

RVP probably said "look, you've got a squad that might win something now if you open your cheque book, sign a couple of world class players. Oh, and pay me more while your at it." AW & IG probably said "why buy players when we've got some great youngsters coming through? You watch in two years...

Deal agreed with rangers for John Fleck

As I said, I agree he is fair game and I said yesterday my personal opinion is Green's legal threats will ultimately fail, but the Rangers site says: "Both clubs have in fact reached agreement for the transfer of the player and Coventry have recognised Rangers rights as part of the process." As...

Deal agreed with rangers for John Fleck

Tend to agree, but if the offer were, say, 20% of any sell on fee that would be potentially some profit lost later (assuming the lad plays well for us) rather than the cost of a possible legal fight now - which we clearly can't afford.

    Joe Murphy

Westwood would probably have been relegated in consecutive seasons if he had played for Cov last season and Scunny the year before. Our problem last season was more a lack of goals scored than goals conceded.

Deal agreed with rangers for John Fleck

I agree it is sensible to seek advice. I doubt the lawyers will give a cast iron guarantee but they can say you should be fine. I was assuming we won't do a deal unless we get that much from the lawyers (and I was saying I suspect we will). If the lawyers were wrong and a tribunal went the other...

Thorn: "He'll (Elliott) fit well with how we're going to play"? How are we?!!

Have I missed something? (feel sillly if so) Or are you working on the basis we need to cut the wage bill so he'll soon be gone?

Deal agreed with rangers for John Fleck

Personal opinion (not qualified to judge such matters) but from what I've read of TUPE guidelines I think the players will be free to join new clubs. Even if Green were to win, the players aren't going to go back. (Would they really be in the right frame of mind to play for a company that took...

Thorn: "He'll (Elliott) fit well with how we're going to play"? How are we?!!

Switch to 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 with the two wingers/auxillary forwards working off the central striker? That formation has been in vogue elsewhere a bit recently. If that were the case, maybe Shef and Elliott working off Cody? Not sure Shef has the speed for it now mind.

Deal agreed with rangers for John Fleck

Rangers was liquidated. A new company has purchased the assets. Players can transfer across to the new company under TUPE, but under those rules they can reject the transfer if they want (as many have). I think the new company thought that transfer happened when it bought the other assets. The...

Deal agreed with rangers for John Fleck

They're a bit slow aren't they? I noted on this thread two days ago that the Daily Record were reporting that. Still, they beat the CT! :o

"Every season since I was 3 years old I've had a different player on the back of my home and away shirts, I know a lot of you will find that sad having a player that's half your age on the back of your shirt but it's tradition" I know we have some kids in the squad this year, but when did we...

New signing About to be announced

A free yes, but it will still add something to the wage bill.

    Stephen Elliott Signs

I can't find a link either, but did discover John Fleck is Robert Fleck's nephew and the latter played for Norwich so that might be another draw (if Premiership football & bigger wages weren't enough).

New signing About to be announced

I sense part of the excitement of the signing, a signing, any signing, right now is it suggests we are going to start the season! All these fears that Sisu might cut & run seem less real if they're adding something, not just taking away. Hooray!

    Stephen Elliott Signs

Sounds like he had one handy season with Sunderland, but has struggled with injuries since then. May be that's why they've only done a 1 year deal. Still, he's 28 so in theory he should be at his prime.
