Sargent’s got a lot to do now. Hasn’t scored for the yanks for ages.

He sounds more versatile than he really is. Good guy, good pro but I think he’s a real niche player. He’s a CB for a back 5. We should look to move him in and recruit someone who is a specialist CB in a back 2 and is prepared to bide their time for opportunities.

I think there’s definitely a player in there. You’re not getting called up for Belgium if you’ve got nothing to offer. But he was stinking the place out a bit before he left on loan. Probably attitude problems and needs to develop his game somewhere closer to home and more familiar.

    What moment still haunts you?

The Torp rollercoaster will stay with me for ever. I’m still totally gutted about losing our midfield at the start of the ‘93-94 season. Lee Hurst, a really promising prospect, wrecked his knee pre-season and never played again. Stewart Robson - brilliant but injury prone - gets his studs...

    Ex Player Watch

Bayliss was badly advised about his move to Preston. They were well stocked in the midfield area. Alex Neil didn’t want him and unsurprisingly didn’t play him. He was recruited by the club as an investment but when it was obvious he wasn’t in the first team picture, they didn’t try to farm him...

    Matty grimes

He was very good yesterday and who knows, maybe the situation is bringing out an extra 20% in him. But across a season, even his most loyal worshipers know that he doesn’t really press or track back.

I see the Bannon and Grimes comparisons. More from the role they play in the team as the glue / lynchpin / fulcrum - take your pick of the words. Main difference would be the pressing and defensive side where Grimes is more disciplined and productive. Bannon doesn’t really press or track back...

    Matty grimes

I find it amazing that Swansea fans were a bit divided on him. Some did really rate him but others were basically saying he passes sideways etc. The bloke’s an absolute genius on the ball and always puts in a massive shift grafting when out of possession. Not bad in the air and reads the game...

    Nttt podcast

I hated that edition of their pod. All well and good getting Wallace on. He spoke well and was complimentary about us. But it’s blah-blah smoke up the arse type stuff. He’ll never say anything insightful or critical while he’s still a player. I prefer their normal round up on a Monday where they...

Anyone remember the L2 win against Wycombe down at Adams Park during the ‘Beast from the East’ cold snap? Was hands down the grimmest game of pro football I’ve ever witnessed. Conditions obviously played a part but the football was also utter shite. When we scored my mate and me were...

    Timewasting

Agreed. The timekeeping is one thing but it’s the disruption of flow. The chance to regroup and even have team-talks. The refs and the authorities need to be prepared to have more teeth and potentially fall out with a few managers over this.

    Near sell outs most weeks

I remember that goal so well. Was an absolute peach. It was 1-1 that day. Ian Crook scored for them. Not as one sided, not much play acting and the ref was ok 👍

    Near sell outs most weeks

I was thinking about this on Saturday. First time I saw us play Norwich was 1992. We hardly ever broke 20k in those days. Just checked the stats and it was 16.4k. It was a top of the table premier league clash believe it or not. On Saturday we got almost double that in the championship!

    Busst To Write To Eduardo

I used to call John Terry “Juice Terry” after reading Porno and Glue. Most people looked at me like I was mad

    Officiating

If I’m honest, this rule change passed me by too. And I was definitely off my seat and screaming about it yesterday. But there were at least 2 other incidents where nobody had been booked and the referee showed no interest in making them get off the pitch. That’s what is making everyone question...

Bloody cheek for that lot to complain about that sort of stuff. They wrote the book.

    Timewasting

The ref is in a difficult position about assessing injuries. But the time wasting is different. They can see it and deal with it much more harshly than we saw yesterday. Adding time isn’t enough. When someone has been dismissed as a result of time wasting, especially a goalkeeper, managers will...

    Officiating

I hate myself for going on about the ref. We were shit in front of goal and that’s why we didn’t win. But that performance from the ref if you want to call it that was shite. You coukd see him turning his back on their time wasting. Deliberately ignoring some of it. 3 bookings wasn’t enough...

    6 team play off

Another issue with Championship relegation play-offs if that ever came a thing….. There’s a big gap from Champ to L1 and it would be really harsh for teams coming up from L1 to finish, say 19th and still have a big risk of going down

    6 team play off

Take last season as an example. Massive relegation dog fight on the last day, including Preston who had been outsiders for the playoffs only a few weeks before. Norwich might have been sucked in if the season lasted a few more weeks. At the other end, loads of teams going for the play-offs...
