That does sound more exciting than just standing by a hole for several hours watching people taking golf shots and not having too much idea where the ball has landed.
I personally don't have a problem with them. I know a few do, but good luck to them, they seem to have been doing very well.

Cross country? I would guess anything where competitors are just coming past you and you are not seeing the whole event unfolding.

Mark Kermode has given it a decent review, saying it is good fun, not a classic but worth seeing, so that is good enough for me.
He's a critic I respect a lot. Don't always see eye to eye with him, but usually I concur with his conclusions. :)
