She’s a bright lady, Merkel. Think she’s got some kind of degree/doctorate in science. One of the few world leaders who commands respect ps whilst I’m sure the apology was genuine/heartfelt, the EU had no choice Pete. The immediate reaction of the individual nations was not what you would...

I really hope a majority of our international aid budget is focussed on helping developing nations through this crisis !

I have to say that was the most cringeworthy announcement of this whole nightmare. The guy just lacks a sense of general/self awareness.

I think we just take it for what it is, a lovely old guy wanting to do his bit. Legend ! ps the NHS has currently got a blank cheque from the government at the moment. My charity preference at the moment would probably be for the homeless as guessing with lack of footfall around city centres...

Think they are now offering testing to all care workers (agree with you about issues in the past though) ps sticking with your work is probably more fun than catching up on here !! Couldn’t resist a quick look either though !

That wasn’t the discussion or point mate. This was about testing those returning from hospital to a care home (which I’m glad they’re now doing but thought the comments were OTT)

Spot on. This is why we won’t know about all the steps taken and timings etc until this nightmare is over. Obviously if a vaccine is discovered quickly (or they remain closed off until we do) that strategy will be perfect, unfortunately I don’t think it will be that straightforward

Sorry if this has been posted already but on a more positive/heart warming note did everyone see the old fella who is doing a sponsored back garden walk (100 Lengths of his garden before his 100th birthday I think) He was aiming to raise £1k....already over £7m !!!! Legend !

Also read something about Sweden having the highest population of people living alone in Europe (don’t quote me on that but definitely a higher proportion than most) maybe I should head over there and try my luck once all this is over !

Regarding the testing of residents/patients returning to care homes, I think some of the comments, about what is ultimately an additional precautionary measure, such as facilitated manslaughter, murder etc etc are way over the top presumably this is only able to happen now due to the limited...

Agreed. Rumour is early May at the earliest Fernando. ps in terms of the confirmed cases it’s 5k from around 14982 tests over 11879 people tested (some obviously tested twice). I think these were tests carried out on 13 April

Not if you read the article ‘It is understood that officials in Whitehall only realised after those three rounds had been put out to tender that they had not received invitations to join the Joint Procurement Agreement steering committee where the orders are organised. Of course the actions of public will determine the number of cases and in turn the number of deaths (and its right to keep reiterating the message to encourage the correct behaviours). But fact that every briefing Ive seen comments have been about how well the public are following the measures I...

Not quite sure where you’ve heard (or how you’ve interpreted) that. There’s constant re-enforcing of the self isolation message and an underlying narrative that if the public don’t follow the current measures stronger ones could be implemented, however, all I’ve heard by enlarge, is praise for a...

I’ve avoided the thread today (trying to go cold turkey !). Agree that the number of acceptances on the government backed loan scheme is poor/unacceptable (I honestly believe this is more an issue with the banks - I’m saying this from discussions and a little direct experience). I do however...
