Not necessarily a Francophile, we have been back in the UK since 2016 (pre referendum). Their health system is pretty good, and of course the bureaucracy keeps loads of people employed. You do need to show proof of entitlement or means to pay though, and it is a bit of a hybrid state / personal...

Perhaps if they had actually piloted a proper ID card scheme the outcome may have been entirely different. What they did sounds like the proverbial dog’s breakfast of a scheme. I know I have a card with my NHS number on it somewhere, that could quite easily be developed in to a suitable...

    New cars

You will be able to get a Taycan soon for that. Doubt the real life range is much better for you though, but they do look fabulous. Not terribly reliable though, apparently.

    New cars

I have a used MB C 300D which is a MHEV. Got over 62 mpg over 180 miles of Motorway and A roads this morning. Was originally interested in the C300E but the salesman did put me off a bit in relation to running costs if battery not charged. Well, that and the much smaller boot space. Yours...

Who is going to be dissuaded from using NHS services to which they are entitled, for example? Some health tourists cost a fortune, for example women with complicated pregnancies who have been advised to come here from overseas. Soon run up a fortune in bills in a London hospital and then leave...

Explain to me why we shouldn’t have ID cards to access public services to show we are entitled to them.

TBH I’m personally all for ID cards, to be used when accessing the NHS, voting, etc. I don’t get what the objection has been, no one objects to the concept of having a driver licence, bus pass, passport or library card. Everything could be rolled on to one smart card.

They haven’t bought it in yet. I would be besides myself with laughter if they do bring it in and the new electorate support reform. For avoidance of doubt, and for consistency, I think giving 16 - 18 year olds the vote would be totally barmy.

    Things that annoy you

TBH same goes for any public transport. I was on a train a few weeks ago and got really wound up by some greedy fucker eating a baguette extremely noisily in the seat across the aisle. Largely a very crinkly wrapper I think but his chewing and swallowing was also quite loud.

Is it irony that a union, Unite, is taking the WFP decision to a judicial review given it was a Labour chancellor and experienced economist who made the decision?

Odd that Thatcher isn’t mentioned in the article all, or in the comments. It was being a member of the EEC / EU that fucked fishing.

If the British industry was lost because of Labour’s beloved EU, it’s hardly surprising is it. I wonder how towns who lose their industries because of net zero policies will be feeling in two or three years time. Rachel Hopkins and Sarah Owen (both Labour) are probably looking for new jobs...

EU happened is what I read, so Ted fucking Heath’s fault. And then Boris should have told the EU to just fuck right off when it came to post Brexit fishing rights and called Macron’s bluffs.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

It’s the principle of the thing Pete. IF they acted with pre knowledge it is totally unacceptable. It should be investigated. Perhaps Starmer could find the civil servant who will be the next Tory party Chief of Staff to lead it. Except he won’t want to risk a by election in what looks like a...
