Whilst this is true. When you're in the position where you have to operate on a smaller budget than most and take more calculated risks, you would think that club would look to impose a risk mitigation strategy in their recruitment model by being cautious about what is offered to who. Like I...

Yes but there will be a specific budget out of the overall budget that will be designated to the U23s in order for them to compete. So again, no U23 outgoings will have any baring whatsoever on the first team budget.

A clear out of the U23s will have zero impact on the first team budget I'd imagine, as the two budgets will be kept totally separate.

He won't have any issue getting a contract. That isn't the problem here. The fact it's more than likely we'll have to mutually terminate his existing contract in order to facilitate a move is what's the issue.

They really do. Especially when the player in question is very much the wrong side of 30.

I'm aware of that. But why not offer a 2 year contract with an option of another year? If we feel obliged to willingly offer 3 year contracts to signings that either no one else wants or ones with more risk attached than most, then that in itself proves the fundamental flaw I'm talking about.

It was always going to be defined by that as when you have a scatter-gun approach to offering long term contracts to players then you're going to get yourself into a situation whereby a sizeable chunk of your budget is going to be used up by deadwood. This is why I don't necessarily buy the...

Well exactly, as I say there's clearly a fundamental problem with what is offered to who. Contract negotiation is an integral part of the wider recruitment model at any given club and ours is pretty abysmal at times really. It's the same issue season after season and it's come to a head...

I didn't expect it to be £50k pw, but it was fairly obvious that it was significant, certainly to the point that it was severely restricting our ability to recruit anyway. Hence why I was stressing the point that there's clearly a fundamental issue within our recruitment - especially when it...

They aren't paying anywhere near what Kelly's reportedly on. The average wage in L1 is about £3-4k pw.

I don't see what club is going to take any of our players who are under contract and surplus to requirements to be honest. Dacosta and Hilssner are just the tip of the iceberg.

I'd be astounded if we got anything from this one, especially after Saturday's defensive performance. Very much doubt our full backs will be able to cope against the pace of Johnson and Zinkernagel - or Spence for that matter. 2-0 Forest.

Bit of a change of tune when we were having this discussion a month ago when you claimed offloading players would be meaningless with regards to us being able to conduct business in the summer....

I think the issue is, due to the model under which we currently operate, do we really have the luxury of holding out for a larger fee? If a bid came in that the club feels is reasonable (ie it would tie them over until the next season) then I'd put a fair amount of money on the fact that...

This is my concern really. Given a decent proportion of the fee will inevitably be designated to operating costs and paying off interest/loans, you have to wonder how much of the pie is realistically going to be left for Robins. My guess is not a lot, which is nothing short of problematic when...

    Remarkable but Concerning

To be fair what else is he going to say. I just hope that's soundbite rather than the club genuinely basing next season's financial forecasts on them matching or bettering this season's ST total.
  20. K

    Remarkable but Concerning

Exactly. You'd hope that the club is not relying on matching or beating the ST sales of this season as I think that would be a very tall order. Unless we maximise commercial opportunities I think we'll very much struggle to best the turnover of this season without the sale of players. Rather...
