    Transfer Rumour Bids for Chaplin

I have mixed feelings on this transfer, and I’m just going to mind dump: — I didn’t want us to sell Chaplin, he’s a good young player who will improve and all it took was one decent half season and his value doubles. BUT, — My first choice ST going into this season would be Hiwula as he got...

    Transfer Rumour Bids for Chaplin

You seemingly like to bash our players. Evidently not a bad buy if teams in the division above are willing to pay him for more. He could’ve done better, but at 22, was definitely always going to improve. I’m willing to let him go if it facilitates the right transfers, after all, every single...

    Transfer Rumour Bids for Chaplin

How is 8 goals 31 appearances ‘awful’ for a 21 year old?!

    Bright Enobakhare

Maybe it is, but it’s not clear for sure. As far as I’m aware, I’m yet to see anything about Bright signing a new contract. I’ve seen that Wolves have taken up on their option to extend his current contract. Two v different things. Have you seen a source or publication that has stated Bright...

    Money in football

The money is there in the sport, the players deserve their share. That rule applies across all sports.

    Bright Enobakhare

If he’s linked with us and Birmingham, then evidently he either hasn’t signed a new contract on new terms or is willing to take a big pay cut. Contract extensions in the club’s favour tend to be automatic, no change in the salary. For what it’s worth, I believe there’s definitely a big offer...

    Hiwula

I agree, last season we were a bit limited in mixing things up with different combinations of players. Even having Jodi Jones available off the bench later on in the season will be a boost as it gives us another option. Signing an out and out AM, Bright (fingers crossed) or perhaps a loaner...

    Hiwula

I imagine that’s why we’re moving to 4-3-3, we’ve got a lot of pace now where that strategy could work. A front three of Kastaneer, Jobello and Hiwula could potentially be a nightmare for defenders to mark if they’re a free roaming unit. I like Shipley, but we’re not exactly going to play him...

    Hiwula

You’d think finding a striker who can score 20+ is easy. We need about 3 players who can score 10+ goals, Hiwula is one, you need Chaplin/Bakayoko to make 2 or 3 and Kastaneer or Jobello to make up the rest. Could do with Bayliss and Allen hitting 5+ goals. We finished above about 9 teams who...

    So where are they now?

    Glenn Middleton

Sounds like a chronic injury too. He was talking about an incident in his Chelsea days where he’d just recovered from a hammy injury and had a collapsed lung after training.

Match Thread Northampton Town in Spain

There were people saying we should sell for about £1-2m last season, to get £3m at the time would be quite good. In fact, £3m is still a decent fee for him. However, we ought to renegotiate that clause if possible if we’re doing well next season!

    Jordan Willis

That’s certainly not an outrageous view. Personally, I believe Hyam will go on to a better CB given that he’s 1-2 years younger than Willis.

    Jordan Willis

I think it’s worth trusting the judgement of Robins. Two seasons ago, Hyam was brought in as a development player and was 4th choice for much of our promotion season, the next season won player of the year. Robins has a plan for the wider squad.

Aside from McFadzean, all of our CBs are under the age of 25 and there’s about 5 of them off the top of my head, with only Drysdale yet to make a start in L1.

    Jordan Willis

I think we’ve well too, to the extent that I don’t think Hyam is necessarily a shoe-in as a starter. McFadzean is going to be a big player for us next season as he offers something we lacked last season: experience and leadership (despite Kelly, you need more than one leader). I do think Willis...

    Jordan Willis

Agreed. However, I believe there was interest from Championship teams, but they were probably signing him as a role player as opposed to a starter. Very good defender, good signing for Sunderland. But, like Hyam (so far) lacks goal scoring from set pieces. Hopefully, McFadzean, Rose and Hyam...

    Ponti

I can’t see how anyone can have any complaints. He’s getting game time in our league, if he does well, it’s a win-win.

Bakayoko had a better strike rate at periods last season. He’s not had a sustained run in the team to take a realistic sample from. Connor Chaplin’s strike rate for Pompey based off minutes played:goals is similar to JP for us, albeit over 20-odd appearances. Frankly, he’s an unknown character...

    St Andrews confirmed!

Frankly, both sides are damaged by our absence from Coventry. Therefore, I think both sides will eventually come to an agreement at some point.
