Players often think they’re better than they are, and goaded into big, one time moves to Premiership clubs. When these players get there, they become disposable in a ‘sink or swim’ environment. Whereas before they’re in an environment where their development has been prioritised at their club...

    Jordan Willis

He’d fit in well. Last season, he was one of the best L1 defenders and is currently playing in the 2nd best defence in the league. He’s a good defender. The direct comparison is with McFadzean. He offers something different, he’s a lot more dominant in defence and has greater leadership...

What good is it getting a 2-3yr pay day when your career splutters to a halt at 26. Footballers at that age with that potential (perceived or actual) probably don’t plan to be out of the football league by 25-26. In US sports, the adage is that your second pro contract ‘sets you life’.

    The Final Run In

For me, momentum is probably with Fleetwood at the moment. Their February was outstanding, and clearly a side that doesn’t lose many games. Rotherham look like they could mess this up, with some sloppy results. That probably benefits us. If we can take advantage and build on the 7 point gap, we...

27 points left to play for and 7 behind us

The teams that blitz teams, like Sunderland, Peterborough and Oxford have found themselves struggling in some games. Peterborough’s record when conceding the first goal is really bad, whilst Sunderland have just lost against Bristol Rovers - what should’ve been 3pts all day. We’re consistent...

27 points left to play for and 7 behind us

We’ve earned the right to not worry about other results because if we win, we cannot drop a place regardless of the other outcomes around us. The team just needs to keep working hard to keep that privilege.

    Manager of the Month

Joey Barton actually deserves it more than anyone for February. Wins against Pompey, Peterborough, Wycombe (with 10 men), Wimbledon, Doncaster and denied a win v Sunderland. Our form was great too, but fair play to Barton and Fleetwood. They are in contention for automatic promotion.

    Tuesday Matches

We’re lucky to start pulling away from a crowded field. Some fantastic results going in our favour. You make your own luck and we’ve done so by beating Wycombe, Pompey, Sunderland, Ipswich, avoiding defeats to Rotherham and Fleetwood. Just one defeat since October is a huge achievement.

Where will we finish if the squad stays the same as it is now pretty much

Robins was pretty clear that we were looking to add to the squad at the time whilst also saying the aim for this season was promotion. So, the thread’s premise is pretty stupid to begin with. This is before a ball had been kicked too.

That’s why it’s advisable to wait until the transfer window is over.

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

Just to confirm, all the sporting events in Italy have been suspended. The French league is to be played behind closed doors or in front of 1,000 spectators. Is the latest I’ve read on my commute.

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

Do our games qualify as ‘large gatherings?’ I’m under the impression that events with 10,000+ people classified as a ‘large gathering’ - read that somewhere, but I’m not 100% sure. I don’t think Serie B or Serie C has been suspended yet. At a guess, any similar suspensions in England may only...

Some absolute gems on here. This thread didn’t age well.

    Chill

27-30 points all to play for still. We’re ahead by 5-7 points. We’re in a great position, but it only takes one slump.

    First we

The delusional thing about what Skuse said was that we had ‘only 1 shot’. Both teams had 2 shots on target, they missed a clanger, and so did Gooden. On top of that, we had 2 more shots in total. Don’t get me wrong, it was a pretty even game and on another day, Ipswich should’ve scored - but...

Championship - How do we stay up?

Which is pretty normal - my point about continuity was more to do with the management.

Championship - How do we stay up?

Continuity is more than just player turnover. It comes from the manager, picking consistent tactics and team selection. You’ve got Jones, Biamou, Shipley, Westbrook, Hyam and Kelly who have all been with us since League 2. Which makes up nearly 1/3 of a match day 18. Given our circumstances...

Championship - How do we stay up?

Cant argue with that. The only defender in our back 3 I would perhaps have a doubt about making the step up is McFadz because he’s an ageing player and isn’t the quickest defender either. Despite this, having 3 central defenders does protect him as we have wingbacks and two defenders to cover...

    SISU

Personally, relegation to League 1 was inevitable with or without SISU. We needed to start again with everything, and relegation to League 2 was our ‘reset button’. With hindsight, it’s difficult to say what would’ve happened with the RICOH had someone else taken over, was conflict, or a stand...
