    Recruitment has been shocking

So it’s down to his analysts then? Not that wherever he’s been he’s had the licence to hoover up talent without having to consider affordability?

    Transfer targets

Maybe we tried? He may have been aware of the interest from other clubs. You just never know. One thing I do know - we ought to get the name of Barnsley’s head scout!

    Recruitment has been shocking

In your opinion. The game is now analysed in minute detail which means pundits etc have to find things to say. These myths creep in. But 99% of it is just what you might call good play. Pass, find space, receive and repeat. Two of the most successful sides ever had systems simply built on that...

    Recruitment has been shocking

Of course you have to have a system. My point is it’s out of control. Pivots, false nines, presses etc etc. It’s just good, intelligent technical play dressed up in endless nonsense.

Match Thread Coventry City - Southampton Match Thread - Wednesday 13th Dec

Robins looked as happy with that display on Friday as I’ve seen him this season. I think he’ll go with the same starting 11. Godden maybe comes back onto the bench - can’t see him changing much more.

    Recruitment has been shocking

100%. The sizes and variations of back room staff is ridiculous.

    Recruitment has been shocking

Don’t believe the hype. It’s a simple game.

    Recruitment has been shocking

You need a system. But by and large other factors play a larger part. Form, momentum, confidence. Loads of debate as to whether we’re playing 4511, 4412 etc etc. Back four or five is about the extent that matters.

    Recruitment has been shocking

Why do the teams with the best players win more often?

    The fee for Liam Kitching

Kitching looks a good player to me. Pace, distribution and most importantly defends very well. He’s clearly better in a back four which allows him to just defend everything rather than wondering where he should be.

    Transfer Rumour Haji Wright

The goals will come for Wright. What impressed me was his work rate. He regularly filled back in and tracked back. When he gets the ball he rarely wastes it which keeps us ticking. Just need him to hit the net more regularly.

    Recruitment has been shocking

Systems. Largely irrelevant. Bidwell is in better form than DaSilva. Collins than Wilson. Kitching has settled. Allen and O’Hare back to fitness. Hence improvement.

    Tempo

The tempo stays high as none of Allen, Sheaf, Sakamoto or O’Hare give the ball away much allowing tempo to be generated.

    Transfer targets

He’s never scored a goal at the top level. Portugals league is a good standard but not elite.

    Half way through....

And then have a huge rebuild every 12 months. Forgot about Binks.

    Half way through....

Big plus in this squad is just one loan. You can’t build with loans…….or sell them.

Agree Allen man of the match. There was a world class save from Collins towards the end as well watching it back on tv. Van Ewijk’s pace is a real asset. Wrights work rate was top notch. By far the most encouraging display of the season all round.

    Ratings

I’d say 7’s all round apart from Allen, Wright, Sakamoto, Van Ewijk and O’Hare 8. For Brum 9 for Ruddy which says a lot.

Keep it to yourselves but we have some team here. Some obvious performances but less in your face stuff 1) Jamie Allen - everywhere. 2) Wright’s work rate shutting down the space his side and never a wasted touch. 3) Sheaf - as always. 4) Van Ewijk - pace, distribution, set piece, defence. 5)...

Good half. We’re light years ahead of Brum. Van Ewijk, Kitching, Saka and Wright excellent so far.
